I'm new to Ford Mustangs and am generally very proud and impressed with the performance, quality and look of the Mustang S197.
It appears that like most other cars there are always a few little niggles that eat away at you until you either have it looked at by a local dealer (not an option in the UK) or do some research into the problem.
Looking at some of the comments from our USA colleagues the Fuel Filler problem appears to be quite a common occurence. Here is my problem which is in fact an extract from another Mustang thread:
"I have been plagued with the dreaded fuel fill problem. Mine started from day 1 when I tried to fill the tank and only got ½ tank filled… we assumed it was the pump being over sensitive. I’ve had my GT for short while and run into the fill issue about every 3rd or 4th fill-up. Each time I ran the tank down to the “50 mile” warning, and when filling, set pump at slowest fill speed. When issue does surface, I can only get ½ tank in before pump shuts off...and fuel is all the way up in the filler neck. I’ve even crawled under the car at station and tapped on the saddle tanks… finding the left saddle tank filled while the right saddle tank sound like the tin-man (empty)."
Now, I confess I haven't crawled under the car but I know this is a design fault just by reading other readers resolutions. The most common and quick resolution is to turn the nossel to the 2 o clock position while filling. Personally although this may work it only masks that there is a design problem as it is only temporary no cost cure. Do other people in other cars do this?
My question is open to anyone however I am interested to learn if anyone in the UK is doing or has resolved this problem. What is Ford doing about it and failing that is someone coming up with a modification that will sort it out?
