is there anything that can be done to help eliminate the odors from the engine. I know my 65 Mustang does not have the pollution controls like the newer cars. We have to leave our Mustang outside to cool off before putting it in the garage, otherwise you almost aphyxiate the house. This is probably normal, esp using the leaded gas substitute in the gas.
thought maybe someone would have a solution.

Sounds like it is either running a little bit rich, or you have a leak somewhere. There shouldn't be much of a smell coming from your engine unless there is excess unburned petrol or you leaking petrol somewhere. Next time you run it and you get a gas smell, kill it, and look all over for any liquid, and check to see if there is anything dripping.

so, is it a matter of the carb getting too hot and boiling ( or nearly so ) fuel in the carb? I used to have bad carb heating issues. I now run a heat shield and insulator under my carb and that helped a lot.
