hello everyone, there seems to be a few post on here regarding fuel pumps, the issues are usually either they dont come on or they dont go off, well my pump does come on and it does go off as its suppose to. The issue is that it takes several turns of the key to prime it, i can hear it gargle and gargle untill it finally builds pressue making a little wine, could the pump be bad? the car runs poorly like its starving for fuel, please help

sounds to me like the pickup tube (made out of rubber has turned to mush...basically is dissolving. The reason I say this is the fact you said it GARGLES. I had a fiero that did the same thing and then quit pumping all together (pump still ran) just would not build pressure. So I would recommend pulling the tank. You could probally get away with just changing the rubber hose, but if you are wanting to upgrade the pump then now would probally be the time for that.

Could also be a bad diaphragm in the pump itself. If you've got 100,000 miles or more on the original pump (or 35,000 or more an a parts store remanufactured pump) I'd change it out while you've got the tank down.

Hey 90stang

Hey man, im so glad to get a reply suggesting that little rubber tube because that was my main suspicion after finding out that the mustang has that little rubber hose just as the rangers did, because i had two ranger have this problem, so now its time to drop the tank, the pumps stock and the cars only got around 120,000 and im broke so im gonna just replace the little hose
