I know I might not be posting in the exact right place, but you guys know alot about racing, so here goes:

I'm thinking of buying one of those G-Tech performance meters to see what kind of times I can expect in the 1/4. Thing is, the lowest price I've found for a brand new one is $199.99. What would you all do, buy the G-Tech or buy some other mod in the $200 price range? I've already got quite a few bolt ons (check the sig), and I'm not sure what I can get for only $200, which is why I'm thinking of the G-Tech....
Any suggestions?
BTW, if anyone has any "real" info on the G-Tech that would also be helpful.

If a track is nearby, go for a mod. Save 300 more dollars and get some N20. I went with a Gtech because I wanted to verify that all the changes I am making to the car are working. I also like to see what effect different tunes that I upload do, etc. Plus, as stated elsewhere, the Gtech gives alot more info then the time slip.

Here is some "real" information, since I just came for CA Speedway today....here are the compartives that the track gave vs the Gtech....

Keep in mind, the data is only as good as your calibration and if you know what your doing (such as measuring rollout and setting the pitch)

Gtech said: 60 foot = 1.930 Time slip said 1.939
Gtech said: 330 foot = 5.300 Time slip said 5.367
Gtech said: 1/8 mile = 8.095 Time slip said 8.169
Gtech said: 1/8 mph = 89.67mph Time slip said 89.13mph
Gtech said: 1000 foot= 10.535 Time slip said 10.616
Gtech said: 1/4 ET= 12.535 @ 110.84 Time slip said 12.605 @ 109.92

Gtech said 0-60 mph was 4.103 seconds.
Gtech said 0-100 mph was 9.797 seconds.

Just a heads up but you can get the same thing from Escort Radar for 99.00. According to Motor trend it is more accurate as well. I think it was the May issue 2005. Cheaper and better is always good.

Very cool. I just picked up a Escort GT2 the other day. Haven't got to try it yet.

No problem, if you call Escort direct and tell them you have the holiday catalog you can get the gt-1 for 49 and the gt-2 for 119.00, just got it in the mail a few weeks ago.

Is the gt-1 any good? Sounds like a great deal for $49. Should I buy it or wait for a better one?

For that price, I've gotta try it. Can you post the phone number?

GT-2 is a lot better as far as display and memory, and data logging. That is what I have. The GT-1 has a more basic display and won't save as much data.

888-837-2678, make sure you say you have the Escort Christmas mailer. They may ask you for a number just say you don't have it in front of you or that you saw it at a friends house.

Well, I did it. I was just milliseconds away from buying the GT-1, but GT-2 came out of my mouth..... more expensive is better syndrome. So, I hope it works out for me. Thanks for the tip on the price savings, though. You saved me around $80 compared to my original thought with the G-Tech. I appreciate it.:) I'll keep everyone posted as to how accurate/ fun the thing is.
