i know i am in the wrong forum, but the 2010 is slow

i have 2010 v6 4.0 liter mustang

first off, the display which shows how many miles to empty always changes. for instance, it will say 120 miles to empty when i filled it to half a tank, i will drive 2 miles and the following day it will say 90 miles to empty!!

also, the gas meter ALWAYS fluctuates! it will go back and forth while driving or like for example, it will be at half a tank then i drive less than 10 miles and it will go really close to quarter tank, then the next day it will go to half! its crazy! i drive the car within less than a 10 mile radius and it has less than 30,000 miles. i am not a heavy driver. i bought the car back in june with clean history and all the maintenance records in hand

any suggestions for what is going on or should i just call the dealer and make an appointment to get it checked out??

thanks!

I would call the dealer and make an appointment to check for a leaking fuel tank.

That's all pretty much normal operations for the car. If there was something wrong with the fuel level gauge or sender it most likely wouldn't work at all.

The miles to empty changes depending on the MPG you are getting at the time.

And there is no advantage to only filling the tank half way, you're going to use the gas eventually anyway so why not fill it every time? That's the only way to be able to get a calculation of your actual fuel economy, filling it up and dividing the miles traveled by the gallons used. Plus, it's going to read more accurately when you fill it up.

Hi crimsontidefan,

Not sure if you saw my other post, but my name is Deysha with Ford Service. You should bring it in to your Ford dealer and speak to the Service Manager about this. He is in the best position to look into this for you. If you need further assistance, don’t hesitate to PM me.
