Gas Tank Help?!?!?!?!

982 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  andrewmp6
Im new forgive me if im in the wrong section but i have a 1966 mustang coupe and just took out the rusted gas tank and will be replacing it. I want to put in a 1969 20 gallon tank. I have two questions. Is 1969 the 1st year the 20 gallon tank was available? and how will this effect the mounting of the tank? i am aware that it will sit higher but will i need to do any modifications for tank to fit properly?

Should be a bolt in thing.Yes the 69/70 was the first 20 gallon tank for a mustang.
I just got a 20 gal. tank for my 67. It fell right into place, but now the trunk floor is higher. It needs the sending unit that fits that tank (not the one for the 16 gal tank). You also have to shorten the filler neck.
ok i will be getting new 20 gallon tank fro m cj pony parts then. thanks alot
I think you should research if the tanks are interchangable between the 66 and 67. I know the 69 tank fit in my 67. I'm not sure if the 67 is the same as 66.
64-70 is the same besides the height of the tank 71-73 is way different.
