Gear ratios

Recently i got a quote from a shop for a 4.10 gear installation with parts included, $750. I was considering going with 4.30 gears to get the most out of it but not go crazy with it like 4.56s. Is there anything that would change the pricing between the installation costs? 4.30s rather than 4.10s should be the same install cost right? Don’t know too much about the install. Also i’d take anyone’s advice about 4.10s vs 4.30s and what i should pick

install is exactly the same as far as I know

4.10 is very short gearing, personally I feel like my 3.73's are a little on the short side already . . . is it an automatic, drag car?

Yes an automatic, forgot to mention that. And no not a proper drag car, but i’d definitely like to think so when i take it to mexico on the weekends haha

with the automatic, I guess you won't lose a lot of time to the extra shifts, and you probably don't care about gas mileage on the highway . . . I have a manual and 4.10 would be too short for my liking, but I'd be interested to hear what some automatic guys say

4.10's are perfect for AT's. 4.30 would be extreme IMO
You gotta dig deeper Jake. The higher the number doesn’t always equate to being the fastest. Find your transmission gear ratios and find an online calculator that tells you what rpm each gear will be at X mph. If you go real low (numerically higher) you might end up shifting into second gear at 15 mph.
Also it’s good to know that a gear will only make you fractions of a second faster at best. It won’t be enough to make or break you unless you’re racing a stop watch.
What rear gear is in there now? I had 3.73’s put in and it got tiresome so I went to a 3.31 and they’re pretty ideal for a street car. Stock was 2.73. If you already have 3.31’s or 3.55’s you’ll get more bang for buck spending that $750 else where. Fractions of a second for $750. Then again, it’s always fractions of a second no matter what the part is unless it gives a 100 horsepower gain. Running around all day at high rpm’s does get old though. Save the headache. Reduce those split seconds with more power instead.
Yes the labor is the same for all, but the part might cost more or less.

makes sense, thanks

I was editing while you were replying I guess. But in case you missed it, gear swaps aren’t hardly worth it for a street car. Lotta money with little real gain. It’ll feel different though.
It’ll feel different though.
And so will your Wallet, a bunch lighter.
