Gear upgrade option i never considered

So i was planning on installing 4.10 gears into my 8.8. i keep finding myself lurking the ford replacement parts section of fords website out of curiosity and have found out some interesting things. apparently a 8.8 with 3.55 or 3.73 gears costs only two hundred fifty some dollars and that eliminates the risk of gear whine completely. and i feel its more cost effective than having ford install mine for 600 some dollars that was my quote previously. im now probably going to just go with 3.73 gears in the rear rather than 4.10s even though i really want that just cause i feel it will be the better option and an easier job.
heres a link to the page

im mainly posting this up because this seems to me like labor is gunna cost less to have that installed rather than to tear down the diff and install the new gearset and then put the diff back on

Please explain! How is a 3.73 rear end only $250!? I've seen the gear and install kits for that price but labor is all dependent on who does the work. If you've found a way to get around the early $1000 price tag, please fill me in. I'm desperate for some 3.73s. I've been prepping to do the work myself and quite frankly, I'm more than a little nervous.
This looks too good to be true.
Well click the link i posted up and look it says 3.73 or 3.55 differential its not the whole rear end just the differential unless i am reading that part numbers description wrong, it says differential and provides those two gear ratios
Yeah, that's just for the LSD, doesn't have anything to do with the actual gears. You'll reuse the stock diff unless you go to a track lok diff, but that's not the case for 99% of us. I hope we were able to keep you from making an unnecessary purchase. A little food for thought when choosing gears. In day to day driving, 1st gear will be useless if you have 4.10 gears. Ive driven with 2.73s, and 3.55, 3.73, 4.10s in a friend of mine's cars. They are really irritating in any form of stop and go traffic. IMO 3.73s represent the best compromise for drive-ability and acceleration.
Yeah i did not make any purchases and that was the reason i posted this up because i was thinking that an 8.8 diff at that price was too good to be true. Thanks for the heads up for sure i hate to look dumn but if that was actually the differential at that price that would be the dang way to go for our cars. im aware what the 4.10s will do but i wont mind to much since inhave an auto and overall im not worried on mpgs id take either one 3.73 or 4.10 honestly but im just gunna have to go the rought i was planning on installation its no big deal! thanks alot!:handshake
My only other question is how sid you figure it was just for the lsd? i was originally looking for the torsen diff price and it said around 1200 and that seemed reasonable for the diff but then there was the 273 and 3.31 and 3.55 3.73 options as well at slightly different prices and i figured it was the whole diff since the part says differential itself

The only reason it has a gear ratio labeled is so you know it will work with your car. For example if you buy the torsen diff it may say track pack 3.73 or somthing. Alot of things on the site will say " Less perf pack" or somthing along those lines, meaning it didnt come with the performance pack.

Also It just says Diff on the description. It doesnt say rear end assymbly or axle or axle housing.

and if you shop alot you know how much things will cost.

EDIT: and even if your link was like you thought. With the diff and gears, you would still need to pay the $600 for the instal. bolting the ring to the diff is a 3 min deal. Its the shimming and bearing that take the longest, which you would have to do either way.

Your link is for ordering part #4026. If you enlarge the exploded illustration, look at the key in the upper left corner. The black square indicates the parts you get when you order part# 4026.

And don't worry how any of your questions are perceived. EVERYBODY was new to this stuff at one time or another.
for some reason my ipad was not letting me blow up the image and i didnt catch that. thanks for the insight guys i do do alot of shopping for my parts thats how i found myself on fords site in the first place and thats why i jumped to post this after seeing that. i figured thats damn helpful if we got ahold of the differential at that price but thats not the case lol looks like im taking my original route for sure!
