Getting Vortec Supercharger

3512 Views 28 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  MeanChad1
Hello Im getting a Vortec Supercharger in 2 weeks but it takes a week to be put in by the shop so I will have it in 3 weeks.. Im debating on getting the V2 or the V3 I know the V3 is newer but I like the louder sound of the V2 what would you guys do? Is there anything I should do or know when I first get my car back what not to do? I have never owned a Supercharged car or driven one I have only been in one and the power was intense I don't want the car to overpower me haha. Thanks guys and I will post the dyno results :]

well the v3 is a bit easier on the install because of the self contained oil system.

as far as overpowering goes just dont floor it in 1st or 2nd gear until you are comfortable. i easily can roast the tires in those gears and im only putting down about 350rwhp/350rwtq. just ease yourself into it if you can.

Yeah my car is a automatic only reason I got a Auto is because Im only 16 and I wanted to concentrate more on the road and wanted to take it to the track I thought a auto would be better..

So in your shoes what would you get v3 or v2?
just play it safe man a sc is alot to handle at 16 you dont wana wreck the stang

Exactly I just don't know what to expect haha as I have never drove a Supercharged car although I am really excited.. I have a automatic but what gear will I feel the power the most and Hear the Whistle I want people to know my car is Supercharged.

you hear the whistle mostly at idle. when you get on it is when you hear the rushing of air like a jet fighter. you will probably feel the most difference in 2nd and 3rd gears.
Well the main thing to do is make sure to upgrade the fuel system...a new mass air meter, fuel pump and injectors as well as chip and tune will keep the motor in one piece...from there, you will just have to be disciplined not to drive around at 100 mph all the time
I say the V-2. I have the V-1 which is the earlier version and tappin into the oil pan wasn't that hard. But I love the sound of the whistle at idle. And mell0 is right once I put it in 1st and drive you can't hear the whistle but only air rushing in and flowing out like a jet. But just be careful cuz I don't even floor it in 1st or 2nd as it will just spin and get sideways, I only floor it in 3rd getting on the highway. But it is a learning experience. You will overtime get used to it and know the limits and expectations. glad you got vortech :)

Thank you yeah I really like the whistle so apples to oranges v2 to v3 is it just the difference to taping into the oil pan?

And is 4k for everything decent? the whole kit install new spark plugs and dyno
dude you are 16 and your parents are buying you something to make your car even faster. I'm not sure who to laugh at them for doing it or you when your wreck it

I have been driving sense I was 12 years old.. At parking lots or when we went camping I know everyone saids they are good drivers but I honestly believe I am a good drive Im very smart and very coordinated I have played every sport and I am going to be getting on the Golden state tour for golf in the next year. I do tactical shootings with my dad very good shot.. I know none of that stuff matters just trying to make a point sounds like you are a bit jealous?

In the end of the day why not if you have money

Hell yeah i'm a bit jealous...your parents are droping a couple of grand in a car for you. Lucky [email protected]
yes i am jealous to haha, i get tuition reimbursement for my school and i am still barley breaking even. also all those sports and training can not replace maturity. and i also take more pride in saying i bought it my self but that is just me.
yeah dude im 18 and as most of you know it have worked my ass off for the past year earning the money to buy my supercharger. i am grateful that my parents pay insurance but then again i havnt ever been in an accident or pulled over so im giving them a hand too.
yea, i barley found a job this summer. will be making about 800, already have 800 in the bank so about 1,200 for books for school year money for a mini fridge and money for food lol. so yea maybe a chin spoiler if im lucky enough to convince my parents i have enough and if not i will pay them back
oopss double pooooooooost

Wow... I typed a long answer and it gave me an error... sajdfkjasdfkasldjkasldfklsad

anyways v-2 SQ trim was made for super quiet. A sleeper kind of thing.

V-3 si trim was made for self lubrication system and ease on consumer not tapping into oil pan and not having to worry about leaks and such.

If I were you I would go for v-3 si trim because its louder and self lubrication. Best of both worlds. Also make sure ur kit has good size injectors (my kit came with 42lb injectors), a good fuel pump, and start saving up for vacuum/boost guage and wideband o2 sensor as well to see if your running the right air fuel (a/f) mixture.

Everyone don't be jelous cuz if the kids a good kid why not get spoiled.

Yea it is a lot of money... however it is the best investment for hp. Everyone usually says GET A SUPERCHARGER but people stray from it due to the fact that it is very expensive. However you will love it and think "Wow I am so glad I did this" instead of delaying it and spending money on headers, mid pipe, exhaust, cams, heads, ect because those do add power but nothing like a supercharger. Good luck bro. I am very interested to see the gains and the dyno sheet. I have the v-1 so I am curious to see how the v-3 does.

Yeah I really want the louder sound of the v1 but they don't make them anymore :[ I think going with the v3 will be the best bang for the buck I just hope it still has that whistle.
