Glove Box Stuck Shut. Not Locked.

Please help, my 89 convertible is getting low on fuel and I can't get to the fuel door button because something is keeping the glove box latch from releasing. When I pull on the handle it moves, but does not work. Maybe some papers got jammed in there? I can actually get to the button with a key or screwdriver if I really have to, but I would really rather not let another problem go to full ******* status. It's bad enough I have to rely on the sketchy-at-best low fuel light because my gauge is out. Hopefully somebody has dealt with this and has an easy $0 fix for me. Thanks in advance.

Should be a safety release in trunk under mat and stuff but stick a flat head between the crack and slowly/carefully pry down and pull on handle at same time should release it happens to mine and I just don't even bother with it anymore i use the thing in my trunk but I have a hatch.
