Gonna buy a GT, what is everyone paying for it?

Hey all, forum noobie here, hope Im not asking a taboo question. Im eyeing one of these retro Mustangs and I plan to buy a GT in May. Mustangs been in the family since the 60s so it seems like a good tradition to keep going.

I figure if Im going to buy this, I want to go all-out GT Premium, 1000watt stereo, man-trans, interior upgrade, 18inch tires...

Edmunds and KBB price it out at 29,670, but Im wondering if any of you went for a similar route and found a cheaper price? Ive gotten more advice lately on how to negotiate car payments and deals, etc than I can bear. Im wondering if someone knocked a bit of brass off the dealer's sticker price. How much did you drop it, and was there anything special that helped you do this?

Any assistance would be appreciated

Thanks

I had to pay full sticker for mine. I wanted to be the first kid on the block and there was only one convertible in the color I wanted in a 200 mile area. Now I cast my eyes at the ford dealership and they always have 4 or 5 mustangs just sitting there for several weeks before they move. I think everyone who just had to have one has one, at least where I live. I would think they are ready to negotiate a little.
I paid 1700 under sticker. If you do not have x-plan available then the AQHA is the only rebate available. $500 for a $30+ membership, one sweet deal. You have to be a member for at least 90 days.
price for GT

Similarly speaking, here on the West coast, I paid full sticker plus a premium to get a GT Vert Premium. But again, I wanted to be the "Jones" and not keep up with the "Jones". If you are looking at loaded GTVert, expect around $34K-$35K. However, I know of several dealers giving as much as $5K off sticker of all Mustangs. So I would expect now adays, you should be able to get an average of about $1500+ below MSRP.
Thanks for the help so far. Im horrible at dealerships, and just wanna get the hell outta there as fast as I can with my wheels. But, Ive got to do my homework so when the time comes I can turn to the guy confidently and figure what my sticker should be. It helps to hear what other people are advising. I was thinking the same thing too. If the stick is 29,670, I should be able to knock off 1k to 1.5k on the vehicle. Id love to bring it down to 28k flat. Does this sound unrealistic to some of you who are more dealer savvy?

Maybe try visiting the dealership, a couple of times, they seem to not want you to leave. Just try several dealerships and tell them that you have just started shopping, and do just that....come and go.:winks Good Luck!
Some dealerships won't do the X-plan for the new Mustang even if you have a number. Everyone went about purchasing their car differently. I found the smallest Ford dealership I could out in the "sticks" and went there. They had two Mustangs alloted to them for the year and weren't even thinking of ordering one (drove on the lot and there were about 10 cars and about 60 trucks so you know what type of customer they were after). I ordered my car exactly how I wanted it, waited the 4 months for it to arrive and they sold it to me on X-plan with no problems. Bigger isn't always better when it comes to dealerships.
I paid several hundred under invoice on my 12/04 order. You just have to shop around. I shopped almost every dealer in the south half of my state via email. Took me about 3 weeks but it was worth it in my book.
I got mine on Dec. 26th from Jenkins&Winn in Clarksville Tn. It was a 200 mile drive but worth it. They agreed to X-plan it. I paid 26,940 (+tax etc.).

They had quite a few down there and great people to work with. I dealt with the Sales manager Shane Butts. If you can't do x-plan they would probably still cut you a good deal.
My dealer has a Saleen and the price is carved in stone. I can fly to Ft. Lauderdale right now and buy the same car and the color I want for 10k less! Try the dealers all over South Fla. dude and I bet you can score a better deal. Good luck.
Go to Blueovalnews.com and search the forums. I think you would be able to find someone on there who will give you a X-PLAN pin number. I would check out several dealerships to see which one will accept x plan. I had to order mine to use x plan, but I saved about $2300 off sticker. If you live in St Louis, go to Ford dealers around Hazelwood. Tehy are probably used to dealing with employees from the Ford plant there.
Can someone give me an explanation of what the "X-plan" is? Im not familiar with it.

Thanks

X-plan is a pin number you give to the dealer, given as an incentive by Ford for "friends and families"
It will take approx 2k off the price of your stang. If you know anyone who works at Ford, they can get you one.
There is a whole write up somewhere about this in the threads.
As stated above, the X-plan is dealer choice, contrary to popular belief, the dealer does not get fully compensated for the difference.

That does not include destination charges of $695.00. (It may have gone up)
I got coupe deluxe, stock radio, alarm, wheel locks, 18" wheels, IUP, manual trans. MSRP $26,760. Minus X-plan which was about 2K.
Base price at the time $25,140.
I paid $500 under sticker... at $25,900 for a GT Coupe Deluxe with Shaker $500 and Sports Package.. I added leather and Dash Kit later.

I know Ray Viles down here has plenty... what color would you like?

PM me your specs and I will scout the lot and see if they have one. I have gotten to know the folks there pretty well. I will ask them what kind of deals they are willign to make if your interested in buying in Tennessee.
I paid 24,250 for a 06' Deluxe GT Coupe 5spd with IUP, plus tax and title.

I didnt think the shaker system was worth it because it really didnt sound that good. I upgrade my stock stereo with a Kenwood Sirius Receiver, 5 Channel Alpine Amp, 1 12 inch JL audio sub and 4 sets of 6 1/2 inch Alpine components for under $1000.00. Now this stereo will kill any Mach set up. Great crisp sound too! I'm happy with it
I paid about $700 under sticker for my Premium with everything on it. Took several hours of the painful haggling - and it was almost at the end of the year. Almost exactly $30,000.

IMO May is NOT the best time to be dealing for a sports car. Spring is usually when everyone starts thinking about getting a sporty car for summer and the dealers start moving them off the lots. January and February are typically the slowest months for dealers. If you have the cash I would recommend you talk to a dealer now. My local dealer here in central Illinois has about 12 GTs and the same number of V6s on his lot. Don't let the dealers fool you, there is NO shortage of GTs right now, you should be able to get one around $2000 under sticker even without the x-plan. Good luck!

Are you kidding me. I live in South FL. Here's what I found in that last couple of weeks for Mustang GT:
Dealer 1 - $2500 over sticker. Listed as "Limited Availability Charge"
Dealer 2 - Sticker price + $499 Dealer Fee
Dealer 3 - Sticker price + $479 Dealer Fee
Dealer 4 - Sticker price but none on the lot
I wasn't looking to buy since I already have one but they didn't know that. Each one told me there was no negotion on the GT. There are more dealerships down here but I can't imagine any of them are much different. Maybe worth a try though. Don't give up.

That's what my local dealer told me until I said "Oh well" and started to walk. Then he said "Let's go in and talk". About two hours later he had come down about $2000. I guess if all of your local dealerships are playing that game you're going to have to look for one out of your area. But think about what a nice ride home you'll have in your new GT!
