the older gentleman down the road was an avid car collector well his cancer caught up with him and he past away last monday.his duaghter was around today and for some that know me i had to ask are you taking his cars back to texas with you and if theres anything i can help with let me know.up and above his 39 plymouth and 55 chevy and his model t in the late 80s to mid 90's he had ownership in a ford dealership so he had a pristine cobra 93 and a saleen evryone around knew this. so his duaghter replies i would like to sell them.my reply is i would buy them for the right price she says 15,000 for them all.i couldnt right the check fast enough.so what would you do keep them original or modify them.saleen has 679 miles the cobra has 1426 miles on them.I so excited:nogrinner:nogrinner:gringreen:gringreen

Hmmmmm...

The exceedingly low mileage on the two Mustangs is really the only thing that is holding me up from offering an opinion...

If the Cobra had, say, 40,000 miles on it, it would be low mileage, but I would readily say just put gas in it and drive the hell out of it. But with 1,500 miles, you are kind of in the "you don't see too many of these cars in this condition anymore" territory...

That being said, I would still drive the hell out of it, only because you have the even more desirable and even more insanely low mileage Saleen...

That one I would prolly park and keep pristine. Drive it to shows, take it out on a Saturday afternoon cruise. I wouldn't start driving it a thousand miles a month though. I wouldn't drag race it every weekend. Not out of any hope that it will be worth some insane price in 10 years, but just because some things are nice to look at...

All things being equal, I personally do not think cars are that great of an investment if you are looking to make money LONG TERM. The chance that they will appreciate faster than the rate of inflation is pretty low until you start getting MANY years out. And even then, you need the exact right set of conditions, namely limited quantity, uniqueness, and desirability. I think desirability is the main problem with more modern cars as far as collect-ability in the future will go. Not that people do not want these cars; just that they do not carry the same level of nostalgia as, say, a '64 does to a guy who remembers his dad taking him for ice cream with the top down on a Sunday afternoon...

But, you definitely got a killer deal on those vehicles. You could more than likely turn them around relatively quickly and make some money right now. If making money is your primary concern, then I say put them up for sale right now, because it seems unlikely that waiting will increase your profits.

So, that is my "stream of consciousness" about the cars. I would personally keep the Cobra to drive, keep the Saleen just to have, and get rid of the others. But, that is just me, and what I prefer and like is obviously different than what you do, so, really, only you can decide what is the best course of action for you...

I say drive them on nice days but dont mod them. Not to many left now days. Cars and meant to be driven. I hate it when I see nice cars on trailers. Then again, maybe thats how they stay so nice....

I would prolly try to keep the Cobra and get rid of the Saleen for the right price...

I just would have a hard time time putting miles on that Saleen, and a car I can't drive is about as much use as a TV that has no picture in my book...

Some guy out there thinks it is worthwhile to park a car and keep it exactly the same as it was...but that is just not my style. So, if he is willing to pay for the privilege of doing so, I say more power to him. Its not like you are ever going to have a Saleen museum or anything, right?

Of course, if the offer was "REALLY BIG" I would probably just jump on it. I am greedy like that...

I am guessing the offer is "REALLY REALLY BIG" because of the miles, and I would have a hard time saying no to it. You can always buy another one to drive after you bank the profit, or use it as a nice down payment on a house, or go on a world trip, or put a kid through college...

i see what your saying but heres what i think:

A) he was an avid car collector and we all know that this is a VERY expensive hobby. chances are he had the money to spend on that kind of stuff judging his collection.
B) if this guy bought the two cars for 15k, odds are she has no clue what there worth or she has too many memories with here dad and those cars and she just wants them gone. a lot of people do that. someone passes away and they inherit something that they had a lot of memories with together and they just want them gone.

i will have to say though, i would REALLY like to see some pics.

I would offer the girl $15K for the '39 Plymouth, Model T, and the '55 Chevy instead!!!!

Those two cars will be worth MUCH more than the Cobra and Saleen.

If you want to buy and INVESTMENT, then buy the true classics. If you want to buy a couple cars that MIGHT bring in extra money in the future and/or want a couple cars you can have a lot of fun with then buy the Mustangs.

Personally, I'm a bigger fan of the old cars (we have plenty of our own), so I say go for them.

But to answer your question on whether to mod or not to mod the Mustangs, I say modify the Cobra and keep the Saleen in good condition. The Saleen will be worth more in the future than the Cobra most likely.

Its BS for sure man. If its not really I am sorry but it seems far fetched that MR Miyagi would be an avid car collector and no one else in his family was or knew what they where worth. Hell a Saleen sold for over 30k in the 90's and that was 20 years ago. The production numbers where so low that we all know they are worth 10's of thousands by now. Saleen personally signed every dash and if I am not mistaken also had pictures of him doing the signing. Every car was numbered also. Its BS. Wheres the OP then?
