Hello, my name is Nick. I own a 1969 Mustang which my dad and I have been working on together for 18 years now. I know, 'what do you work on for 18 years?', right? Other than an engine rebuild and new transmission a few years back, we've taken our time and done it on a shoestring budget. We've done a lot of fabricating, restoration, upgrading, etc on our own. Planning to do the paint ourselves this winter.

This looks like a great place to get to know some others who may have been around the block a few times with some of these things. I'm sure I can learn a lot from you all and I look forward to getting to know some of the folks here.

peace!

Hiya, welcome to the site. Been working on mine too, for 18 years, you have to do it this way when you don't have such a large budget.

Hey Rick, Welcome!
This is the best Mustang site of all the ones I have been to. Lots of good info no matter what you have.
Up here in St. Point and going down your way to Rockford on Friday, usual monthly trip.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

Dan in San Diego, I'd recommend starting with finding some friendly folks in your area (possibly a Classic Car or even Mustang club) and start asking questions about their cars, their experience, what they did, etc. There's no substitute for a good face to face conversation with the right person to start you on your way.

From my experience, I'll say that I'm glad I took the "mechanical first" route. Would be disappointing to pour thousands of dollars into a shiny new paint job and still have breakdowns, burning smoke out the tailpipes, etc.

My paint was ok 18 years ago, now it's worn quite thin, and shows signs of temporary cover jobs over the years. It's due time for a good full on paint job, but I'm glad we took care of the mechanicals first, as I've enjoyed a good 7-8 years of no breakdowns - actually a downright reliable car for me (moreso than some of my other less-aged rides in the meantime).

Peace!
Nick :)
