Hi - I jusat bought a 92LX with a 331 stroker and Tremec 3550. The engine has <500 miles and is documented by receipts. Transmission has unknown history. Car is solid & tight (and FAST), but makes a terrible grinding/squealing noise for about 2-3 seconds when being started. Then runs fine. It has a high torque (Nipponso?) starter, but I don't think that is the problem. Something is not meshing right between the starter and ring gear. A local battery / electric shop suggested the transmission would need to be pulled and the flywheel, ring gear, pressure plate, etc... all inspected to make sure the car has the correct parts combination. Sounds reasonable, albeit expensive. Any other suggestions or tips out there?
