GT40 heads help PLEASE

im about to buy a complete 1996 explorer motor and the guy said they dont have the p heads he said they start the p heads in 97 and was wonder are the non p explorer "1996" cylinder heads any good?

They're regular GT40 heads. They're just as good, the P heads aren't all that impressive. The only real difference is the P heads have a straight plug rather than angled.

Plus, with the regular GT40s, you don't have the header/plug boot headache to deal with.

so i will get the same gains from these heads as i would with cobra heads?

the regular gt40's have 64-66cc combustion chamber,the gt40p heads have 59-61cc chambers(from all the info i could find on the internet anyway)

the cobra gt40 heads were milled once more,not sure how much,but it raised the compression a bit

the p heads will give you a higher compression ratio than the explorer gt40's
