Hey I need some advice on choosing my midpipe. I have 2 options: either an x pipe or an h pipe. I am piecing together an exhaust system instead of buying a kit to try and save money. I purchased GT takeoff mufflers for quite cheap long with the over the axel pipes. The only thing I haven't bought is the driver's side hangers and my midpipe. I am stuck on what to buy. I know that the h will be deeper and the x is raspier but what would everone suggest? I don't really care about the few horses I would gain going with an x I just want the car to sound good.

I think the X pipe is more popular, but one reason may be how easy it is to get. Pypes makes one that is very affordable. I bought the Pypes X and Mid pipe kit 3 years ago and used some 2007 gt mufflers a workmate gave me that were taken off his GT after only one week. Along with my K&N CAI and tune it has mellowed into a nice deep throaty sound. I have no complaints at all.

go with the h pipe if you want that deeper mustang tone and some gt take offs. no need to spend 400 bucks on a dual conversion kit. I got 2 gt shelby take offs for 50 bucks off of ebay, so far i only but one on and there is already a a difference in sound. Cant wait to add the other one and dual it out. But it will be harder to find a h pipe then it will be to find an x pipe. but you can always have the muffler shop make you one :)

I've heard before doing either the h pipe it matters putting better header exhaust pipes like shortys or long tubes

i did my exhaust system and i installed my shortys a couple months later. you dont have to change the headers but i ended up doing it so i could get rid of the rusted boat anchors

Thanks a lot guys. I still haven't decided yet but this is what im gonna do. Im gonna go with an h pipe but I will ask the muffler shop to clamp the h pipe to the over the axel pipes and the cat pipes instead of welding. That way if I don't like it I can buy an x pipe and hopefully install it myself without paying any shop labor. Btw are the holes for the driver side muffler taped?
