Hazards work inside and out but not the turn signal. 89 GT CONVETIBLE

7157 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  scooter93
My 89 GT convertible has no turn signals! no clicking, no lights outside.. But my hazards work! in my dash and outside the car they blink like a boss. I checked behind the fuse box, there is a small can shaped fuse but i've been told that is for the hazards only. I have messed with the ignition switch to see if anything is lose. Is there a diagram or anyone with this common issue that can throw me some guidance. Is there a fuse or relay for the turn signals under the dash. Everything is stock so nothing has been messed with.

1) The flasher for the turn signals is located behind the radio mount. If you remove the tray under the radio or remove the radio itself, youll see it hanging there. If its good, goto step 2
2) Check fuse #5.If its good,goto step 3
3) Check the wires on the ignition switch harness, especially the gray/yellow wire. The wires can pull loose from the harness connector.
BTW-the gray/yellow wire (3rd wire up from the bottom on the harness) Its the wire that feeds fuse #5.
4) Check the ignition switch to make sure its 2 halves havent seperated.
* The diagram below shows the ignition switch*
5) Check the orange wire on the back of the (dash mounted)hazard switch.Make sure its not loose. If its loose or open, the turn signals wont work but the hazard lights will
6) Check the orange & pink wire on the back of the multifunction switch.Make sure its not loose
7) The multifunction switch could be bad

Hazards work inside and out but....

That is the same problem i had on my 89GT
Even after the headlamp switch and harness was repaired.
Mine was the harness at the hazard switch loose pin.
Fuse 5 also feeds power to the backup lights at the turn flasher behind radio as stated above.
No backup lights could be no power at turn flasher ppl/org wire.

My Turn Signal Relay was right behind the Glovebox.
Not my car.
general location radio/glove box area.

PPL/ORG 12V from FUSE 5
LT BLU goes to hazard switch

Better EVTM diagram of hazard and turn circuits
Notice how hazard switch output bypasses the TSS.
So focus on fuse 5 side thru hazard switch to TSS.
