head/intake swap-tstat temp recommendation

804 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  EagleAutosports
i am in the process of finishing everything up after a head and intake swap on my 94 5.0 and have a question about the tstat. im running gt40ps and an explorer intake, smog and egr delete, off road hpipe and shorties with the stock radiator and electric fan. and i always wait for the car to warm up i never just get in and go(to hopefully keep it going strong for as long as possible and prevent warping and such). also it is my daily driver but only in spring through fall, it is garaged during the winter

so with all that info what thermostat temp would you recommend?

no colder than 180..stay stock(195) or get a 180 and you'll be good to go
yeah i got impatient and just put the one i had back in... im guessing its stock
I have the same heads and lower intake, and I run a 180 t-stat. I also have underdrive pullies though which kind of force me to use a 180.
Keep the thermostat to a 180 at the coldest. If you go colder, it'll just be open the entire time and it'd be like not having a thermostat at all. That will eventually make the system run hotter because the coolant won't be held in the radiator long enough for the airflow to cool it. If you stuck the stocker back in, leave it and swap it whenever the occasion rises that you need to take it out again.
