Last night while driving, my headlights would go on and off. Sometimes they'd stay on for a bit, other times, they'd flip on and off within seconds.

I've been having problems with my headlight knob where the dash lights would go out (but headlights would be fine). I'd have to click the knob all the way to the left (bringing on the interior), then just barely snap the interior off to get dash lights.

Can the knob be affecting the headlights now? If so, is this something I can repair by replacing the knob or is it the wiring connection in the dash and I have to take it in?

The switch assembly might need to be replaced. GL

Thanks. I'm guessing that includes the wiring connection inside the dash which I shouldn't do myself.

From what it sounds like you have a classic, my 68 had a similar problem. In my case the headlight switch was getting very hot (which lead to the problem), I replaced the switch and everything works fine now. Pretty easy to do, just a tight space to work in.
