Help! Black or chrome?

I don't really know why this is such a hard decision for me. But I guess I'll throw it out there and see what everybody's opinion is. I want to go black rims but not sure if I should. Another part of this dilema is to go 19" or just stay with the same size rims I have now which is 18". I just changed my gear from 3.31 to 3.73. I wonder if moving to 19" will make it feel like a 3.51, which is almost no difference to my original 3.31. I like the way my 3.73 launch with my 5 speed gearbox. It's a lot smoother with no torque dip or bogging during normal take offs. The 19" rims seem to fill up the wheel well a bot better. Oh well... let me know what you think, and thanks for your reply!

Excuse the cheap paintshop rendition of the black rims. I'm too cheap to buy Photoshop. I'd rather spend the money on my car instead. :gringreen

The black rims I plan to buy are the black GT500 from AmericanMuscle.com

I like the black a whole lot better than chrome. I don't know much about the gears and wheel size, but if your thinking it might effect your launch then just stay with the 18's. It's still a good size wheel imo.
Since your car looks clean, without "bling", I think the chrome looks better.

Keep in mind, I prefer blingless cars. To my mind, garish paint, stripes, etc. all look great on the track, not so great on the street.

But that's why I bought a Bullitt...for it's lack of bling. It's all a taste thing, and to each his own.

Regarding wheel size...it's all about the diameter of BOTH the wheel & tire that matters.

You're right! I do like it clean! I like the almost sleeper look. I just thought maybe it's time to change that after 4 years. Black rims might bring the mod bug back coz now I will want black stripes, black decklid panel, blacked out turn signals, smoked headlight covers, black fuel doors... oh boy.

But somehow I just like to compliment the black convertible top with black rims. Man... I don't know...

Buy both and change them every other week lol
Personally, I Like the chrome look with your Blue, and it will all depend on what size (diameter) rear tire you chose for the 19's compared to what you have now. Keep it around 27.0" diam. and you should be fine...i.e. 285-305/35/19's...
Black for sure, looks good and easy to clean. Chrome tends to peel after a while, black you can touch up if you have to. Black is also easier to clean, i wipe turtle wax ice on mine and take a dry rag to wipe them off and im done. I think there is some pics in my profile. I think 18's are plenty big, the bigger you go the more weight you add.

I like the look of black on your blue car - but it is really up to you - chrome would look good also.

When you change rims/tires, and if you keep the same overall diameter - 27", then it will not effect your rear end gear ratio.
IMO, Chrome without a doubt! Black rims are terrible in the dark for one. And even in the day light you need to be pretty close up to see them really good.

Bottom line is get the ones that you like better.

Now for the speed question. It is my understanding that it's the tire size not the rim size that matters. So if you can get a lower profile tire that would be the same overall height as the tire on your 18 inch rims there would be no difference what so ever.

In fact, if you get a lower profile tire, that is shorter than the ones you have on now, you'd actually get quicker going to a 19inch rim. At least that's my understanding of it. :bigthumbsup

Black does look great, especially with your black convertible top.
I'd go with the black for a more aggressive look.
I know you're asking us to choose b/t black and chrome... but I have to ask, what about machined? I've always thought machined looked really nice. Gave you the slightly darker look and contrast that black does, without going invisible at night like Chris said...
Buy both and change them every other week lol
:heha::heha::heha::heha: splurted my drink all over the monitor because of that!

I would say that the chrome wheels accent the blue better. I like the idea of the black out accessories tho. I have a black decklid and it makes the back really look good!

and I have no expertise in wheel sizes, sorry :smartass:

What?! I need facts to argue with this. However this doesn't make sense at all.

Agreed. But I'd add some black stripes on the sides for sure. Small pinstripes would work.

I say go with black, why? because almost every car on the road have chrome rims. I'm tired of seeing that.
