Thanks for the reply, the info you guys give is invaluable and very generous. It turns out that the outer "O"ring was the culprit and needed a washer to hold it in place.

Hello all,
Can you tell me how to remove the shift lever to replace the oil seal behind it? Is it pressed on or must I take down the pan to release something? My factory and Haynes manuals don't go into enough detail.
