Help installing new radio/cd player

1351 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  ChrisLav
So this is my 1st real project working on my car. I have a V6 2007 Crimson red mustang, i just received my cd player so I can hook up my subwoofers. I so far uninstalled the cup holder slot, panels on the side and have unscrewed all screws, I have also unplugged the ac units and emergency lights and such. Thee PROBLEM im having is I cannot get the cigarette lighter to come off, im afraid if I pull too hard it will break and then i'll really be in trouble. Idk if there is a lever you can press like the other plugs but this one will not com eoff and is preventing me from continuing my work. any help ti[s and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Lighter

I will admit not being familiar enough with the 2007 mustang lighter socket setup. However, basedon other designs I am familiar with that might be used here, the lighter socket typically has a threaded cylinder on the back of it. This cylinder is about 1-1/4 inch in diameter and threads on to press on the back towards front. The front of the cylinder has teeth that dig into the plastic, so it may be a little tough to turn the cylinder of the back at first.:smoke:
I own a 08 mustang, did the radio install my self.. on my model the cigarette unclips from the left side if I remember corectly. At first I had a hard time with it as well but its clipped in on my mustang. Hope this helps
Ahhhh yes installing a stereo in a mustang. Its almost as if ford didn't want us to install aftermarket stereos lol.

There is a clip but its easier if you have another person to help you Me and my dad did it and it took forever to unclip it. Just keep trying and it will come off.
