as of right now i have a 3 spd 289 on a 66 coupe but i want to drop a 5 speed and the Ford racing 342. i need to know what kind of work i need to do before droping in this motor. i know the transmission (i need to know what kind of work i need to do? what transmission is best that can handle roughly 400-500 ft/lbs, and if it will work w/ the parts im looking at), rear end (planning on a ford 9inch w/ 3.70 gears goin in), and disc brakes (SSBC big 10 drum to disc in the front w/ 13in rotors and a small disc brake upgrade in rear). i know im gonna need suspension mods but i dont know what. if yall could shed yalls wisdom on my project i would be very grateful
Thanks

I can't give ya a complete answer but if you really want to put that much power into your 'stang you may want to look at a few things.

Make sure your floor pan and frame rails are in good shape. You'll need a solid platform to begin with.

Upgrade the entire brake system. Goin' fast is no fun when you can't stop:)

You'll need an export brace and monte carlo bar

Subframe connectors, preferably weld in ones

traction bars

sway bars front and rear

Thats all that comes to mind at the moment hopefully others can add to it........Good Luck
