Help needed car won't start 1991 5.0

So basically I go to start my car and it fires up then slowly its started to idle funny like it was dying and the check engine light came on while it idled funny. then it turned off. When I try to start it now there is no crank. When i jumped it with jumper cables still no crank.

Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem? It's also an automatic btw. Thank you very much

Start testing fusible links, relays, etc.
Do you mean wont crank as in wont turn over? Or will turn over and wont start? More details please.
No crank at all but everythin turns on like fuel pump and cluster and lights all. I'm testing the fuses now
I tested all the fuses everything looks good I'm thinking right now it's starter solenoid It makes a buzzard noise from there everytime I try and crank now
codes have nothing to do with turning over or no crank situation-no crank is from these following things-starter, ground, solonoid, low voltage etc. one you get it running or cranking again then pull codes.

I wouldnt be looking at the starter if it started then began to die, that is not starter related. definitely sounds electrical.

I used to see something like that - no crank- in my friend's LX. However, it will crank when it is cold or after many many times trying to start. So, he found out that coil was bad and replaced it, then everything went perfect.
I am not sure if it's the case with you, but for sure its ignition/electrical problem. Let us know how it goes with you.

Battery may be dead. Check the charge. If the alternator is bad it may not have charged the battery and the rough idle may have been the last gasp of the battery before it died. Check the easy stuff first.

Not sure if that year has an EEC relay. Mine went out and everything operated but wouldn't start.

jump your starter solonoid with screwdriver and see if it cranks then, if it does it may be ignitions switch or neutral safety switch.

Okseveral things may be at play here,
Clean all connectors, grounds to the block, battery terminals, Pos cable on the soileniod, Cables to the starter, After all of that, it sounds like the solenoid on the starter is going bad.
