Help with 2000 mustang gt high mileage purchase.

Hello Everybody, this is my first post and I could really use some advice on a mustang purchase. I came across a 2000 bright atlantic blue mustang gt with the 5 speed manual. It has 177,000 miles on the clock. The current owner has had it for a year and has not driven it much since he has too many vehicles. The previous owner had the car since 18,000 miles and has 25+ in documentation and receipts. He apparently passed away last year at the age of 58. It is very clean underneath with minimal to no rust as it has been garage kept its entire life. It has brand new tires and brakes. Also a receipt shows that the engine was rebuilt in 2013 and the rear end was rebuilt as well. I have not been able to look at all of the documentation yet but it looks like everything was done professionally. The car drives straight with no wobbles. I am not sure if the transmission has been rebuilt but it shifts very smoothly. If the transmission has not been rebuilt would that be something to worry about? He is asking 4450 for the car which is what he still owes.

So onto my situation... I am currently in my last year of college and I work as an intern for an engineering company. I work enough so that I have money saved for smaller repairs. However, I do not have time to constantly be working on the car. It would need to be my daily driver and I only drive 100 miles a week on average. I do not plan on abusing the car what so ever. Thanks so much in advance!

I bought my 01 with 137k, and it now has 163k...runs better than it did when I bought it (mods have helped).

You could have a trusted mechanic look it over and give his/her opinion.

With 177k, there will be no doubt that something will need to be replaced; and some things will break. I don't see a tranny failing at that mileage as the T45 is a good tranny...when was the clutch last replaced?

I would be worried about the fuel pump, vac lines, sensors, etc going bad at those miles but it does like it was well taken car of.

Did you drive kind of hard when you test-drove it? If not, go re-test drive it but drive kind of hard...see how it responds.

Agree, pay somebody an hour's worth of labor charges to give it a good once-over to identify any possible or likely issues. That's just cheap insurance.

Unless the car was beaten unmercifully then the transmission itself should be good. Under normal driving and occasional "fun" they last almost literally forever.

Looks like a good buy. definitley get it looked at but overall it looks good. In my opinion though I think 177k is kind of high but if its running good and had the engine rebuilt then its probably not a big deal.
Thanks for the quick response. The clutch was replaced in the past couple years with a stage 2 clutch. I am meeting the seller again this weekend so I will get a chance to test drive and get on it a little harder. Also since I do not know the area very well where I am meeting him (Dayton,Ohio) I was wondering if a ford dealership would be a good place to go and have someone inspect it.
