I am thinking about dual exhaust conversion and I am trying to keep it cheap, but still get good brands. I am not getting headers, just a midpipe and mufflers.
A body shop told me to cut the bumper out to support the 2nd muffler would cost $300 or so
I was looking at this midpipe 2005-2009 Mustang 4.0L V6 BBK Dual Exhaust Conversion Kit
and also this midpipe 2005-2010 Mustang V6 4.0L Pypes Cut and Clamp X-Pipe
The second, pypes one says cut and clamp and that it can be used with any GT catback, can you not use a dual axleback and would i need more piping with that cut and clamp it looks short?

You can do the cut-out yourself along with all the work if you want to save money. There are many threads here on that as well as ones describing how to DIY for the whole job, as well as what mufflers and sound, etc.

I'm actually looking at a GT bumper now that costs $215 and comes unpainted, It'll probably look better than a cutout. How much do you think it would cost for a body shop to paint it and put it on?

$300?! WTF?? They are full of "something"...A local body shop charged me $25 for the cutout on my 05 V6...It doesn't even cost $300 to paint the fricken bumper lol.
If you are going to get that BBK true dual kit, you wont need a new midpipe...as that comes with a x pipe already. It would be a waste of money to buy another.

(TBH When I did true duals on my 05 the shop charged me $450 for everything(mufflers and all). I would get another price or two from other local shops...

That price covered everything, piping/material, mufflers, and labor. It would be less if you brought in your own parts. BUT contact the shop first, there are a few shops that wont allow customers to bring in their own parts to be installed.(Incase something happened to a part, they wouldnt be liable/to blame)

The converion kit makes it a true dual exhaust. It has the driver side exhaust pipes, and allows you to weld you psngr side to the provided x in the kit.

"This BBK kit includes a full 2.5" mandrel-bent aluminized steel X-pipe, high-flow catalytic converters, and a drivers side tail pipe. When used with the existing passenger side exhaust pipe, it converts any 2005-2009 V6 Mustang into a true dual system that allows the use of any GT Axle-back Exhaust."

**Everything you will need is in this kit. The shop will just install and connect your existing psngr exhaust pipe to the kit.**

They make a driverside cutout image for the v6 bumper if you are willing to look. If anything, a shop could just trace the outline of the psngr side and properly place it on the driver side...making the cut. I was charged $25; You could always go to another shop and ask for their price. I wouldnt spend half that on a small cutout.

Prolly about $350. The GT bumper has a lower section that sticks out a bit farther. If you end up with GT mufflers they won't stick out as far. I've had mine both ways and it looks good either way.

I've cut the second opening myself with tin snips followed up with sandpaper and it looked great. Mask the entire area, trace the opening mirror-image from the other side, score it with a utility knife, cut just inside the line and then use a drill-mounted sanding drum to finish it off.

What is the cutout image, is it like a template to lay on the bumper and it shows exactly where to make the cut?

Personally I like the look of the cut out on the V6 bumper more than the GT Bumper. I was lucky, back when I bought my dual exhaust I got it from NTO newtakeoff.com it came with a X-Pipe, the Mid Pipes, 2 GT Take Off Mufflers and all the Clamps and Drivers Side Muffler Hanger along with the Templete to cut the Bumper, total cost was $299.00 plus shipping.
My Son in Law and our Buddy and I did the work in less than a couple of hours, it was easy and if I had to do it again it would have been even easire. I have pics of the kit and some of the work we did to install it on My members profile page, click on the "Camera" under my Avatar Pic and it'll take you there.
If I were you I'd consider doing the work yourself. I'd also look on Craigs List or E-Bay for the Mufflers and Pipes needed, Im sure you'll find some good deals out there.

I can't tell you about the first few choices you have named, but I can tell you about the Borla's, they look great and sound even better! I take my hat off to all of you guys who do all the work yourselves, I'd love to be able to do some of the stuff you guys talk about doing!

2005-2009 Mustang 4.0L V6 BBK Dual Exhaust Conversion Kit

Does anybody have a guess as to how much installation for this BBK dual exhaust conversion (it reuses the piping between the stock midpipe and muffler and the piping is welded on) and mufflers would cost? My guess was about $200 but does anybody on here have a muffler shop and can give me an educated guess?
