how hard is it to install a cam in a 5.0? i really want to do a head cam intake swap right now but i just want to see how invlolved and how much work its going to take to do it. any help or tips is greatly appriciated.
Since you're wanting to swap the heads and intake anyway, half the work will be done. Once you get the heads and valvetrain off, you'll then:
remove lifter retainer spider, and the lifters
remove timing cover and cam plate
CAREFULLY remove cam, taking care not to nick the bearings unless you intend to replace them
It'd be a good idea to get a quality double roller timing chain while you're at it. Then the procedure is reversed to get the new one in.
thanks for the info. is it pretty easy to learn as you go? im pretty good with working on cars i just have never dug into the engine that much besides some of the basics so i just wanted to get an idea what i was up against.
