Well ive never traded in a car so now that i know im looking any advice on how to hassle or what to expect. Trade in is 05 v6 50k miles auto and a crap load on cosmetic stuff as you can see. The kbb is 9500 for trade in value. I was hoping to try to get 10 but i have no idea. More i get easy car payments will be im going after a 11/12 5.0. Just looking for advice from those who know more then i on this topic thanks all happy halloween

It just all depends really. I have traded off both of my 5.0's (2012 & 2013) because the dealer gave me a number I couldn't turn down. Some dealers will give you a low ball number to see if you will take it. I always go in with a number in my head. If they can meet that number, or come close to it and then knock some off the car I'm buying, then we make the deal.

Just be ready to say no thanks and walk away. I have done it more times than I care to count.

ya im hoping 10 so i dont have to dip in my pocket i owe 3 in it right now. I have about 8k save just for a new car so i plan on droppin 10 -11 k no matter what. Just dont know if they ever go over kbb to make a deal. Hell i know my car will sell damn quick lol
That's another thing to think about. Sell it out right. With my 06, after blowing an engine and having to re-build it, it was easier for me to sell it on the forums. Someone knew about the car. Trading it off, whoever would have bought it wouldn't have cared or appreciated the work that went into it. Of course I lost my ass, but not near as bad as I would have trading it in.

Have you tried carmax? They gave me a lot more than the dealer offered and about $2000 above trade-in value since they seem to sell all their cars over blue book. Just give them a try, there offer is good for 7 days.

2011 King Ranch 4x4 F150. Cant pull my duck boat with a mustang. :)
You will never get above KBB from a dealer on a trade in. You'd be lucky to get $7k from a dealer. The only way you'd get more than KBB is if you got screwed on the new car price.

They have to make money somehow and buying your car above KBB is not the way to do it.

Sell your car to Carmax and buy from a private party. That's how you're going to get the best deal.
Didn't know you could do that il look into it
They will usually offer you "fair" market value on your trade in. Don't expect more unfortunately unless you are buying a car from them then they can play with the numbers some but not much.
And just looked at it there selling 05 v6s for 13g with 70 k miles lol
Actually Carmax isn't allowed to lower prices on cars or give you a higher trade in value once it has been assessed. I guess once the person who assesses your car puts it in the system and they give you a quote there is no turning back.

Not carmax but the private dealers can toy with the trade in numbers.

Ya I'm just Guna go to carmax see what they say I'd sell privately but I don't have title I owe 3 k and honestly don't wana pay it off and end up not find a 5.0 I want.

Just an FYI most dealers use the "Black Book" and not KBB. It's usually quite a bit lower than the KBB value.

And never tell them about the trade until you've haggled to your best price. Otherwise they might give you more on the trade, but won't budge on the price.

Either way you take a bath on a trade. Consider a private sale if you have the time, you'll likely come out better.

Kinda hard to sell without title in hand lol and not Guna pay off my car unless new car is lined up thus the trade in idea. I just need to not rush into anything they wise the perfect car may come up one day so I'm Guna shop but plan on buying in feb or march
You can sell a car without a title in hand. If the other person in financing from a bank, then the 2 banks will handle the title transfer. You will never see the title.

If they are paying with cash, cashiers check, or wire transfer, have them go to the bank with you where your car in financed and pay it off. In 10 days they will send him the title.

This is how it works in Texas anyways. Might be different from state to state.
