Help with X-303 camshaft into 1991 GT

I have Heard that the x-303 cam is a wast of time and money if you do not have heads because all it will do is move the power ban up is this true? I have also been looking at the specs and it looks like i would lose alot of low end power? what are everyones thoughts on the camshaft?

Once again it doesn't matter what cam it is without upgrading the heads & intake .....

There will be virtually no performance gain......
If you can make use of it, the X is a performer... it's a lot better than the other cams like the B and E. It's not street legal, by the way. The cars I've ridden in that had the X didn't lose bottom end torque, but they pulled like a train all the way to redline.
Aside lobe and total valve lift, the specs @.050 are identical to the B-303.... which means valve train setup is very important due to the more aggressive lobes. Would the use of stock heads keep those events from getting optimized?.... yup + the expense required to set the valve train correctly, actually justifies the utilization of aftermarket heads even more.... BTSTDT as my signature shows.

Now..... lose a lot of low end?...... are we racing below 3000 rpm's? :headscratch:.....anyway.... anytime you upgrade a camshaft there are other components that need to be upgraded/replaced/made compatible as well..... converter if used in an auto transmission, rear gears for any setup, valve train, intake manifold combo, TB or carburetor, exhaust....... there is no magical single component (aside a low psi SC or Turbo) that will make 60+HP as a "bolt on".

Yes there is.......

A Nitrous Kit.......:gringreen

Sorry had to do that......:)
:hihi:.... yup, forgot about the giggly.... it is never an option for me though.....LOL... it means there's still work ahead to make it run.

That is so true about the work....

Any of the three should be use as a power adder not a power subsitute......:)
I learned the hard way as my car came with an X cam and GT40 heads and did run like it was supposed to. Again I purchased it that way so hard to tell but was not to impressed with it. I hired the help of Jay at CI and I have decided to purchase new heads and a custom cam. It's all about the COMBO.:gringreen
It's all about the COMBO.:gringreen

if your going stock every thing , then i suggest porting the intake and heads , ,,but then the cost you can buy heads that flow good, and port your intake your self, hopefully your not using stock intake with the x-cam. i had put a x-cam on a complete stock block with aod with 3.73's. ran better with stock cam
