Hey Everyone. My name is Richard, and I'm new to the website. I have a 2001 Mustang GT Convertible. I'm posting because I have a few questions about cleaning the Mustang at home. What kind of soaps or something could I use at home to clean it and get it looking really nice? Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just pick up some nice car soap at an autoparts store. If you're talking home made, just be sure not to use dish soap. That'll strip your paint right off.

Lol, Dish soap will not strip off the paint. What it will do is strip off any wax. Dawn is probably the best for this. But, yeah, just get some car wash soap at the auto parts store. Most of them are gentle enough to not harm the wax finish.

That's interesting. Maybe it's just a myth that everyone says. I've never used it myself but I've always been told to NEVER use dish detergent on a car.

Good to know. I still personally won't ever use it though.

Welcome to AFM!!

Its funny you ask, Rich, because when I am getting ready for that big early summer clay session I actually wash my car with dish soap to help get the old wax off, then I clay the car, then completely wax it up again. The rest of the time I wash the car with dedicated car wash soaps, I am not particular to any certain brand.
