Hood Scoop Grill

Hi,

I have a Black 2001 GT that I bought about a month and a half ago. It is my first mustang and i love it to death. I plan on doin the mach 1 grill delete soon and wanted to know if i could do the same for the grill in the hood scoop. I have seen a few GTs around town that look like they do not have a grill in the scoop and i really like the look, but i want to make sure the scoop is goin to get ripped off by the air if i take the grill out. If i can't take the grill out what can i do to make it appear as if it is not there? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Bad Idea

I removed the plastic piece from the front of the hood scoop and ended up having to buy a new one it was okay around town and at cruising highway speeds but when you get much over hundred miles an hour the scoop starts to lift. So after many trips over 100 miles an hour the underside of the scoop where the bolts hold it down was torn about halfway down on the right side and a quarter of the way down on the left side. Don't do it! Jeff
That is what i was afraid of. I guess i could just try painting it black. Thanks for the help.

Yea I wouldn't mess with it. I also have a black 01 gt. Don't know if you have seen the Mach combo on your exact car, so I attached a couple pics for ya'. I have lowered my car since these were taken, so it looks even better now. I love the look on mine. Good luck!

Man your car looks sweet. I just ordered my grill delete today so i hope to have it by next week. I guess i'll make my decision of whether to paint it or not after i get the grill delete on. Thanks for the help.

Maybe I'm confused -- isn't it ALREADY black?

I've thought about taking out my scoop grill and shaving it down a bit so it would set into the scoop another inch or two -- that wold make it more invisible while still keeping too much air from getting under it.
I do not know about yours Lan but mine looks more of a gray color than a black. Moving it back a little bit sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

Another idea to try is go to www.ccmustang.com . They have a couple of cool replacement grills that look really sweet when installed. I'm going with the gloss black on flat black and getting the full set hood, sides and lower fascia. They also have some good deals on eBay if you're looking to save a few bucks.
