Too all my AllFordMustang good people,

as I stated in the title I am hoping to pull my 5.0 this winter:bigthumbsup. What is a good estimate on how long will it take if the person is pretty is into all this stuff?

Also,
my car says it has around 50,000 miles...so obviously it's prolly either 150,000 or 250,000(hope not):nono::nono:. It leaks oil horribly, I mean flows like a river. at my apartment complex you can tell where I park it!! So it will have all new seals.

The big question is!

What are the chances that I will be able to re-use my same crankshaft and pistons?

Also, is there a good chance my cylinder walls will be ok? (I hope I don't have to bore it.)

Rebuild plans. (open to advice and ideas on build)
I am thinking to use the trick flow stage 2 cam; I have had a set of 170's; trick flow twisted wedge heads sitting in my closet for months, then eventually trick
flow intake

Thanks everyone.

Assuming you have the tools and an engine lift, it will probably take you 1.5 hours to undo everything you need to yank motor out. Would be much faster if you have air tools as motor mounts can be a PITA

150k+ mile I would go with a rebuild. Probably cheaper to just buy the motor with bottom end ready to go from a place like LRS. When you pull the motor you will get an easy diagnosis as to where it's leaking from.

You'll obviously want all new seals, oil pump, oil pan gasket, etc.

With motor out they sky is the limit for build options and probably limited more by your wallet than what anyone hear can suggest.

If I were goinging for max Hp I would go with AFR heads. And if you plan on using a turbo or supercharger you definitely should go with new pistons and rings.

call your local Machine shop and ask what it would cost to rebuild with different options ...then compare it to a new or reman. bottom end ...
