Hostess Twinkies and Classic Mustangs

Sad day today. Twinkie the kid is no longer, but the Mustang still rides. I remember eating Twinkies in my dads 65 Mustang. Going to the store in his Mustang was always a treat, especially going home with Twinkies. Today I lost my job, as I worked for Hostess brands selling Wonder Bread and Twinkies for 22 years. I came back to the plant today and was told we were done. Unload your truck and go home. I could see it coming the past 10 years. Very poor upper manager decisions. They took huge pay increases this past spring along with 1-2 million $ bonus.

There are 3 possible buyers who are waiting to buy for about 30 cents on the dollar. Also the company may re-open under a new name and hire most of us back for much less money and etc. I'm a Teamster and we had nothing to do with the strike. We all took a huge pay-cut,(about $149 less per week) to help save the Company. That was the Bakeries union who went on strike, Us Teamsters pleaded with that union to call off the strike. Jimmy Haffa, (Teamster Pres) went to Washington to get the Government's help in a kind of a bail-out loan for Hostess brands. That is still pending I hear. There is a lot more to this then is told.

Now I have no job, I can get my pension, but it won't be a full pension. Not sure what to do, but it will work out.

Twinkie the kid will be back, just like my old 66 Fastback came back.:yup:

well that's terrible, sorry about that. Has to be incredibly frustrating. :(
Hoffa is an idiot...and I am a Teamster!

Your company has been in trouble for many years.....the economy sucks like it never has and the bakers go on strike...:nono:

Blaming this one on the economy?

Put the blame where it belongs, the vulture-capitalists who loaded the company up with nearly a billion dollars in debt while they cashed out. It was apparently their intention to liquidate all along. Straight from the Bain Capital playbook.

Then to force huge concessions from workers to further enrich themselves. They'll be profiting handsomely from the liquidation, and then reopening with entry-level wages and non-union.

A prime example of the continued war on the middle class by the corporate elite. I applaud the Baker's union for going down with the ship. Enough's enough of these thieving scum. I hope the Teamsters call a nationwide strike to protest what's happened here, and that the government regulators get involved and seize some assets from the vulture capitalists.

Sorry to hear you got caught up in that mess. I am sure there is much more to the baker's union's side, the company side, and the teamster's side. I know every time we go through negotiations the local media reports incomplete one-sided stories. I wish you the best. It's ashame the middle class isn't better respected in this country. We just seem to take concession after concession while our bosses make millions and millions running our companies into the ground.

I better finally try a deep fried Twinkie before they are started to be made in Japan.

Nail in the coffin...

Your synap is crap....prove it or go away.:yup:
Unions suck. The company I work for has about 9 production plants of which 3 are union. Not only do their workers produce less product but they also rank lower than the other plants because their product is out of spec more frequently. Not to mention they take home less pay than the non union plants on account of their union dues and higher insurance cost. We have inhereted some of their employees that shed some light on the BS that is put up with over yonder. The consensus is to work as little as possible, have as many paid days off as possible and get paid the most as possible.

Thanks guys. I'm making phone calls for new work posibilities to see what's out there. For us who just lost our jibs at our location, we have a union meeting Wed with our local union rep. There are so many rumors going around now, so I don't want to say anything. I'm looking into buying a bread route/cookie route and etc. The market I'm in has both kinds of routes. You either work for a company, (like Hostess Brands) or some routes you own, (like pepperage farms and Arnald bread)

I'm about finished with my interior on my 66 Fastback. It looks pretty good. I was having a heck of a time with thr rear fold down seat. The seat that was in the car was from a 65. I have a 66 and it's a little different. I'm trying to convert that fold down seat to a 66 style. For those who know the difference, you know what I mean.

I did instal new shoulder 3 pt seat belts. They turned out great. I did a nice job with the placement of the belts on the floor and near the roof. I have had people here ask about them, so I need to get some pictures posted and etc.

Sorry to hear the news. I'm sure you'll land on your feet though. I can also sympathize with you on the fold-downs on the early cars. They'll drive you nuts in a hurry.
its the economies fault and because corperate has no respect for the working man who is the backbone of america. sick of seeing bonuses. o u make over 500000 a year. what more does your pitiful over indulgent life need.
