How About an A/C cold air?

It is very, very hot and humid here in South Florida. I can feel the difference in performance in the car now after going through a relatively cooler winter, not that there is a winter here.

This is my reasoning for the thought of a "cold air intake"

If I ran a small hose from my ac vent to my stock air filter and inject such "cold air" into it would I see a difference in performance. Does that make sense ?

Or is the A/C air much more humid in nature than the HOT air from the road? Has anyone ever thought about this ? :headscratch:

I gotta run the a/c anyway, so it would not be a big deal to loose a little of it for the sake of performance.

Actually this has been done before. Refrigerated air is actually very low in humidity. But you'd be robbing Peter to pay Paul as far as performance goes.
I understand that I the compresor takes away from performance, but I gotta run the air anyway because it's so hot
I think Ford actually looked at this but found the results to be minimal., like 5 hp...a good fender kit is about the best you can hope for, run 93 Octane gas too.

Do it man! I'd be very interested in hearing how you went about it and your results.

I live in Phoenix, AZ, and although it has extremely low humidity, our summers flat out SUCK! Air temp gets all the way up to 116 daily in late June, all of July, and most of August. The actually temp is a lot more, due to that damn heat soak in the concrete!

I could definitely benefit from this as well... :bigthumbsup

I really don't think the A/C could keep up with the air velocity required of an intake.
There isn't nearly enough volume of cool air to make any difference. Your blower motor doesn't move that much air.
I don't drive mine that much during the summer, too damn hot & rainy in So. Fla. If yours is your DD, then I wouldn't sacrifice your cabin comfort for minimal if any performance gain.

a better idea, and done routinely in racing, is to set up a nitrous nozzle or two to spray on the outside of the air to air intercooler.
that and I have seen people use an alcohol injection kit utilizing a Volkswagen cold start injector and filling their windshield washer reservoir with alcohol.

I don't think you get anything from this. You'll need more then one hose deverted to there. not practical. :nono:
That makes sense, because I would have to sacrifice too much of my AC to get only minor gains. I'll tell you that nasty hot air and humidity makes a huge difference here from the cooler months.

Cut a hole in the firewall and plumb the induction into the cabin. It will draw cool air from the cabin. :bigthumbsup
