Opening up the exhaust ports is a must. Ford put an emissions "hump" in the port and its sole purpose is to restrict exhaust gasses to provide a better reading for the sniffer. Get rid of it and you will have made a vast improvement. Gasket match the intake and exhaust ports to your intake and headers and you are well on your way.
