How did your spouse respond to your new Mustang?

I have to admit, I bought my car, without taking my girlfriend with me. Took a lot of heat for that maneuver.:laughlitt

How did your wife, husband, significant other, take it when you got it? Were they more or less enthused when they actually got in it?

My woman was non-plussed until she got in one at the dealership [red, Saleen convertible] and it was all smooth sailing, from there. She loves to ride in it now and amazingly, giggles for about a minute, after anytime I hit the throttle hard :) She *really* likes it. Loves the sound, the look, how shiny it is...

What is your spouses favorite thing about your car?

LOL!! My GF did too, right after I bought my house :( Security thing?

"Nice car! Makes me want to release my eggs."
Heh..heh...the funny part was she had been wanting to get pregnant for two years and we had no luck. She was into the calendars and temperature stuff and it was making me nuts - after seeing a specialist who told her to just relax and not worry about it (samething I had been saying for two years and for a lot less money) she let me buy the Mustang - BOOM! - a month later we find out we're having a baby. Now my wife wants me to keep the Mustang for our daugher! :D

When a friend of mine saw a pic of the new Mustang I sent him, his response was "I see you opted to skip the Viagra and get a muscle car instead." - how right he was!!! :winks

I tried to hold back my urges... But then a beautiful, black '05 moved into our neighborhood and I began seeing it regularly, along with a handful of others around town.

When I told my husband that I wanted to trade in my paid-for, fully-loaded, red, '99 Toyota Solara with only 48,500 miles on a Mustang, he was like... "What?? Where is THIS coming from?" :kooky:

***Bear in mind, this is a second marriage for both of us... We just got married in August 2004. I was able to pay off my leased (the third leased Toyota I'd driven, so I had already spent a LOT for it) Solara following the sale (for a tidy profit) of my condo. So, the car was mine.***

I told him how I'd ALWAYS wanted a Mustang when they were 'cool,' i.e., before 1974 (sorry to anyone who owns/loves the '74 - '04 Mustangs... They simply did 'nothing' for me personally). My infatuation was all Mary Tyler Moore's fault when she drove that beauty across the opening credits of her TV show. Once I was old enough to drive - 1974 - well, you know... I didn't want one again until now. :laughlitt

Soooooo... Hubby and I went to a local Ford dealer on a Saturday night just to check them out. Then I did my homework. Knew what I expected to get for my spotless, low-mileage Solara... Knew the only Ford discount I would get on a Mustang would be through the Ford Partners program thanks to my employer... Knew how much more of my 'condo money' I would need to pay cash for the balance.

I went back - alone - on the following Wednesday. Did the deal exactly as I expected... gave Ford my Solara and a certified check for the rest... Got into my GORGEOUS, very first, FABulous Mustang... A week later I got my personalized plates "PONYCAR"... and never looked back! :eyepoppin

Hubby has never asked to drive my little pony... And I've never offered. :heha:

My wife wasn't to keen on a new Mustang until the first ride. She really likes how comfy the seats are. Here only complaint was not being able to see the speedometer..wahwahwah:) . Best part is ,anytime she sees some kinda Mustang T-shirt she gets it for me.Yesterday she found a really nice poster of an 05' and even put it up in the garage for me.POCO:)
Ouch, it was the quietest week in 25 years we've been married until we picked it up. First ride and she did nothing but [email protected]@ch about the speed, because she thought I was driving too fast :laughlitt . Although I get that all time even when I drive her car. But, she took if out solo about 4 days later :happyhapp with me pacing the floor for the 5 hours she was out. Now, don't even look crosseyed at the car, she gets pretty defensive. And it's tough keeping her out of it....I think I may just get her one so she'll leave mine alone...:)
My first car was a '71 Mustang which is the same year I was born. I paid $800 for it and fixed it up. After 5 years of owning it I got tired of the up keep because I drove about 100 miles a day to work. Well I replaced the Mustang with a '93 Ranger (which I still wish I kept the stang) and then met my soon to be wife. My mom entered me into a contest to win a '95 Mustang Convertible V6 which I won. Since I had a newer '93 Ranger and Heather( soon to be wife) had an older '87 Escort she got to drive the Mustang 95% of the time. Well my passion for the Mustang never died and and Heather knew that so she shocked the hell out of me. I thought we were going to the Ford dealer to pick up a friend dropping off a car for service then go to dinner. I thought to myself why not look around at the Mustangs while I wait. Well I saw this sweet Stang that drew my attention because I liked how it looked. I noticed it had a bow and a SOLD sign on it and a lot of sales guys chatting around it. I looked at it, seen it was sold and plus I hate car salesman so I walked away. One of the salesmen came up to me and asked me if that was my car. I said no and the wife said I just bought it for you a few hours ago. Surprise! I was fully shocked. It took hours before I realized it was mine. :laughlitt

Ha ha. I have a story like that too!

My wife ordered me my 05GT for my 40th birthday. That was a great surprise! She decided that if anyone was gonna be the one to get it, she was. She doesn't drive it("Looks and sounds too much like a race car.") , but I think about her when I do! I think that was the point.

Here's how it went down:
My wife and I went into our dealership to finally order my 2005 Mustang, the day before my birthday last year. I did the usual things, went for a test drive, talked about options, etc. When the salesman started taking my order, he was casually writing it on a piece of scratch paper, like we were sketching out some stumbled-upon idea! I was a little nervous, thinking "How is he going to remember all my options?" So then the salesman finally relented and got out a blank order form. He explained that we could start filling it out, or we could just use the order form that was already done for me! Turns out my wife had gone into the dealership a week before, and arranged for financing and ordered the car already, with the right colors, options, etc! She really was paying attention!

So a Torch Red GT was ordered on Jan 13, 2005. My wife happened to be at the place right when they were placing an order for Mustangs with Ford, so the salesman got right on the phone and replaced a V6 they were ordering for stock with mine(saved me 3 weeks, he said). Cool! My delivery date was only 35 days from the order! My 41st birthday was yesterday, and I am still stoked! Happy Birthday indeed!

Which "she" were you referring too? :winks

And yes, I agree with you - call them the conception cars!!!
G
i didnt ask cause she barely gets to ride in it...i use the knockaround car for the chick...my 06 stang is MINE...she doesnt like to speed and she isnt wild about the country music so when i cruise i cruise alone(sux for her cause the knockaround is a 2000 mustang with 67000 miles on it...i suspect she just likes to feign fear anyway.)
I had to deal with a LOT of jealousy! I make more than he does, so when I paid off the truck, kept it AND ordered a new Mustang....which, of course, I talked about ALL the time...there was a little tension there. :laughlitt I did all the dealing, etc by myself. BUT...I did let him break the tires loose first time out! :happyhapp
I didn't tell her (the girlfriend) about it until the day I drove it home so it truly was a surprise. She doesn't live with me so when she came over she asked whose nice new car was in the driveway, I said mine and she did one of these :eyepoppin :eyebulge: :happyhapp !! She's the greatest because she lets me do what I want and doesn't say things like "that's not a practical car for Minnesota". Once she rode in it she loved it....so I let her drive it and now she asks to borrow it all the time. Nothing sexier than a woman knowing how to drive a 400+hp car! Gotta love her!
My wife actually encouraged me to get mine. I had wanted a blue '66 fastback for something like 20 years, but school, work, family, house, and a business always prevented me from getting one. When I saw the concept car, I was hooked. I almost didn't get an '05 GT because, due to the aforementioned reasons, it was late in the model year before I could order. So last Christmas I got a little box with a Mustang key chain and a note to go order my dream car.:happyhapp

My wife isn't really a car nut. She likes it well enough, but doesn't want to drive it. After taking care of everything and everyone else for 20 years, it's nice to do something so pie in the sky for myself.
Damn, these cars do cause family expansion. About a month after I ordered mine, she was pregnant. As to how she takes to the car, she likes it - unfortunately :winks she cannot drive stick.

Now the UPS man, he is getting tired of delivering car parts to my house! He asked me when the dog house was due!:eyebulge:
