See picture, I'm looking at buying this 1971 convertible. 3K but there is rust. Trunk, Floor pans, Batt holder. and this on the frame. I'm really concerned about this. Is it a deal breaker?

The engine has been replaced with one from a 1991 mustang. How far down does that push the value?

Car also needs lots of other things, but mostly concerned about the rust.

Thanks in advance!

You have a pretty good hole there! I would cut out the rotted metal which will enlarge your hole, but it will also allow for inspection. This is the most important part - You will have to determine if the structural part of the inner portion is still viable. If so, have a patch the same thickness or slightly more than the frame thickness welded over where you have cut out. If the innards are junk - without actually seeing the damage, I would have to suggest replacing the cross-member. Make sure that any cracks that are coming from the hole are cut out or properly stopped. Cracks should be drilled at the end, grooved for their length and welded up.

Welcome to the club, btw.
