JMO you are about a 1000 miles over due for an oil change.....

I'd change the oil right now. On my engine, I was told - 20 minutes, 100 miles and then 1000 miles. It was also recommended that I use organic oil until I reach 5000 miles, which will allow good piston ring break in, before changing to synthetic oil.
uaually a good engine bulder will drain the pan after the initial ring seating fire up then at 500 and 1200.
Are you gonna go with synthetic? You could put it in now at 1600 miles on the 351C..
I agree on the above. I had a fresh rebuild and changed the oil after starting and tweeking/timing, etc., less an hour of run time. I was amazed at how bad the oil was initially. Lots of crap, even thought the oil was "clear looking", it had alot of small shavings and such from a new cam. I will change it again after about 100 miles and then at 500 then 1000. I have no problem spending less than $20 per change after all of the work that I put into the 65.:bigthumbsup

Ya... way too late but change it NOW. All kinds of crap in there from breaking in the motor.
yea, go ahead and get it changed now. the 20-50 is a good choice.
iv changed it already.Yes i thought a little thicker in the summer. So when do i need to change it again?
when it gets to 3000, do it again. should be o.k. also with a flat tappet cam it wouldn't be a bad idea to use some sort of zinc additive. jegs, comp cams, lunati, all make a good additive. even the G.M. E.O.S. is very good. :bigthumbsup
If it's a rebuild change it ASAP. If it is a crate motor,it's already been broken in, but I would still change it ASAP. And yes I use 20-50 in mine since day one. There's alot of debate over oil weights, but that is what I prefer to use.
