Hey guys i am coming up on my first oil change im at 4200 miles and i kinda wish i did it at 3500 but i have been lazy because of work so i am going to do it this weekend probably. Ford told me to change my oil around evey 7,000 miles but i deffinantly dont think that is beneficial to the life of my engine so i am deffinantly changing it sooner. normally id change oil every 3k but since they said 7 i gave it 3500 and now im at 4200 9436.gif I believe im going to need6qts of 5w20 oil and then ill keep running the car. My question for you guys is how often do you change your oil? I dont feel 4,200 is awful but i do somewhat drive my car hard and i deffinantly feel the need to change it and feel i should have sooner. sorry if its been posted before, i went searching through like 75 pages looking for the positive displacement blower thread mentioned in a previous reply on one of my other threads yesterday and wasnt down to go digging for this today

Every 5000, that is half of what the interval is. I actually set the Oil Life monitor to 50% when I change it.
Ford recommends 7500-10000 miles for light use, the OLM will adjust itself if it needs to be less.

The only possible way to know is to perform regular oil sample analysis of your oil. I will say that if you are changing your oil at 4,000 miles then you are wasting your money. I've gone as high as 9,000 miles.

every 3k miles
low mile toy (5-6k yr) I do full syn every 9 months = 4x in 3yrs or 1 more than the OLM suggests. Old school I ALSO did one at 500 miles (semi syn) another at 3k.
I do every 5k and think it's more than fine. It's up to you but at 3k it would just be a waste of money to be honest.
I've been doing mine at 3k every time full synthetic royal purple is my choice. Always change the filter never go cheap on your baby
6560 miles on 2011 changed oil 4 times

maybe take in to consideration how hard some people are on there cars, i dont think its a waste of money at all in my procharged 3.7
Wasting money if you do anything before 10k. As long as you're not racing and you're using full synthetic, there's no point to early oil changes
My car came with a maintenance plan, so I do mine every 3k at the dealer...and they even put 3k on the windshield sticker. The funny thing is they never mention that it is less than the recommended interval. Seems like a waste of money and time for them to do it less. When my plan expires I'll go with something between 5k-7k.

Again, there is no way to know unless you sample your oil.
I went 78k in mine without this "oil change" you speak of. I checked my washer fluid once.... joking.... I dont get the point of these threads. The book says 10k. So you can do whatever you want within those 10k miles.

I drive my car pretty damn hard and smashed through my last tank in 2 days also 200 miles on it but i was driving hard through it and was on it 90% of the time. i love my car and i feel above 5k is unheard of id never go over 3k before this car i feel im sticking with my gut going with every 3500/4000 mile intervals. im nit keeping my car stock either just loke blown 3.7 and i dont think its a waste either people ask these questions because i dont trust 10k intervals let alone 7.

I agree man👍
I got the maintenance plan. I have to have it changed every 5,000 miles. It is a synthetic blend so I am sure that is plenty. I did get my first change done at 2400. First change is complementary by the dealership and I a old school about getting break in oil changed early.
I typically do mine every 6-7k. I'm easy on my car, rarely getting above 4.5-5k RPMs during my commute. I see no reason to do it more often using Motorcraft 5w-20 syn blend. I'm at 44k and I think I've changed it 5 times now.

After checking my records, looks like my average OCI is 6,522k. Seems about right for a new car with 45k. Planning on a 6th change this month around 46k.

As you can read above. Oil changes are personal preference.
I personally... Haha. think its all about the filter your using. And what tupe of engine you have. OHC or Pushrod.
I've heard stories where people change the oil every 6 months or 3000. Then talked to people that change the filter and top off the engine. AND yet there is another group of people that use additives from OTC.

I use AMS Oil and change every 20k. I average 20k a year and never had an issue with any engine using this stuff. Stop wasting good money. Its all about driving conditions. The motor in these things will last well beyond the rest of the car.
Jack,

do you sample your oil? 20K seems real long....I also wonder if Ford can mess with your wtty if they find out.
