Hey all, I've been noticing that the used 11 GTs are coming down in price lately. And the dealers by my house are offering 0.9 financing. Maybe thinking of getting one. . . However, I love the 5-9 body style, so my question is I have 4.10 frpp gears, a JLT CAI on the way (the two hundred something dollar one) and a bama race tune so far. What else would I need to be able to keep up with the new 5.0? Is it even possible without some sort of F/I or big engine build? I am talking about just the stock 5.0 with the stock gearing. Would 2K be close to enough or should I go with an 11?

Also, I'm interested in having my engine stroked. How much does this usually cost around, what are the benefits, and what other parts would I need? Is it worth it? I dont see many sigs with this in there.

Thanks all.
-Chris

this is a Canadian website, so the prices are in Canadian dollars, but it gives you an idea of pricing for the hardware, then you'd need performance cam, heads, fuel pump, injectors, intake and the install is where the gray area is.

It's not something you want just anyone to do on these motors, so labor would be very costly. then comes the tuning etc. So you'd be looking at about $ 8-12,000.00 for a strong rebuild. 8k is probably the absolute lowest and would probably be hard to get done for that low of a price.

The most cost effective way is spray or the edelbrock e-force supercharger. It's a good unit from what I've read and I intend to go that route shortly. You have to keep in mind too that the guys aren't running the 5.0 stock either so if you wanted to beat one you'd really have to spend some serious cash.

I think taking your car from stock, to a stock 5.0 gt would probably require F/I, nitrous, or a build. Stock 05-09 and stock 11 is like a ~112hp difference. (at the crank at least) So, from what you've already got, you should be MAYBE 10-15 hp more over stock, to the wheels. Might be more, not sure about the tune on the 05-09's. Either way, gonna need a lot more for another 100 hp, and bolt-on's aren't going to get you there. Maybe you could buy a knife to slash the 5.0's tires before you race'em ;)

start saving for a supercharger, cheapest and safest bet.

Most stock 5.0's, manual, put down around 350-360rwhp. My 05GT with bolt on's, exhaust, stage 3 cams and a brenspeed tune made 330rwhp. Dyno tuned, i might have been close to 340rwhp. Get that and a set of ported heads and you will run with a stocker. To run with one that's modded, you will then need to run nitrous. At one time, with bolt on's and a 100 shot before the cams,it made a safe 368rwhp.
So it's possible.

if you have 4.10 gears and CAI and tune go drive a 5.0 w/ 3.73s, the acceleration feels the same.

A supercharger or nitrous is your best bet. If funds allow get the 5.0. With a CAI, tune and long tubes they are making over 400 to the wheels. Thats supercharged 4.6 3v territory. Even if you bought a stroked engine and heads and cams and the other boltons you would only be around equal to them. Only a blower/turbo or nitrous is gonna put you well over them power wise.

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured. I think I'm going to stick with my 06 GT for another year or two. By then the 11s will be into the mid-lower 20s.

Another question. Is it possible to buy and install the coyote in the 06GT without having to change the transmission and all the wiring? I've seen the coyote going for under 7K, but what else would I need to make it work?

I'd love the S/C but I cant afford to put out the 6-7K at one time. I would consider putting the brand new engine on a credit card. But not the blower, because too many things could go wrong with my engine and my credit card would be dead. At least with the new motor there'll be a warranty, and it would be cool to have zero miles on my engine too.

Thanks for the info gentleman. Looks like I will just have to bow down to the 11+ for a bit. That's okay, I don't like to race other Mustangs anyway.

BTW as for the 05-09s with the cai/4.10/tune, accelerating like an 11gt w/ 3.73s, I find that very hard to believe. Maybe with 2.73s on the 11, but with 3.73s and 412+ HP I'm sure the 5.0 is much quicker.

i went and got myself my E-Force right before the 5.0's came out. I'm superior to a stock 5.0 but not by much. But at least i know i can hang with if not beat them. Thats all i wanted :bigthumbsup

Go with a SC, just doing a stroker won't keep you in front. The stroker kits don't really do a whole lot except add side load to your cylinder walls.

I've seen the motor for $6999 or so, but I don't believe Ford is making a conversion package for the electronics. A guy on another forum was doing it, but it seems like a lot of work. More than I'd be willing to do. Besides, for $7000 you could get a good blower setup & smoke a 2011.

If the warranty is the reason you want the Coyote engine Id think twice. I never hear stories of companies Ford and FRPP included that are gonna pay out money for a new motor if yours pops. They always blame someone else. The installer messed up. The tuner messed up. Id either get the 11 or get a blower. A coyote install seems like ALOT of work/money if you are not gonna be turning the wrenches yourself.
Id have an 11 but I got too much into my car and I like all the extras.
