To pull the transmission, the driveshaft will have to be disconnected. Finding a plug to put in the tail shaft of the trans because the fluid will leak all over. If not make it the last thing that you do.
May need to remove the center section of the exhaust for clearance. Disconnect and remove the trans cross member. Remove all the bolts from the bellhousing to the motor. Disconnect the trans cooler lines and linkage. After all is disconnected. You will have to disconnect the converter from the flexplate. Remove one bolt, turn motor over by the dampner bolt til you can get access to the next bolt. Should be three. Once the converter is completely disconnected you will be able to spin the converter.
After everything on the converter is disconnected you should be able to gently pull the trans from the motor and once past the dowel pins lower the trans down. Again watch out for the fluid leaking from the trans. You maybe able to remove with the driveshaft still in the trans but disconnected from the rear end. That would help with the leaking fluid.
When replacing the converter, it will just come right off once the trans is down.
Replacing the converter with the new.......put on the input shaft and spin freely until you hear the converter bottom out. You will here the splines seating. Once you know that it is seated, reverse the process for removal. If the converter is not seated, you will have problems mounting the trans back to the block.
One major step kind of forgot........Fill the converter with trans fluid BEFORE mounting back on the trans!!!!!! It will leak out only for that small time of you installing it back on the input shaft.
Once everything back together, start, select all gears, then check fluid level with the car running.
