I was thinkin about puttin a flowmaster on my 2.3 1993 LX stang. I was wonderin how it would sound though? But if it gives it a lil more of a powerful sound that'd be great. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't know how it would sound, but you
would need a bigger pipe. If you didn't
it would probably sound like a deep throaty import
(I know, it dosen't exist). The reason I say that
is it might stumble over itself when you let off
(BMMM BBMMM BUMM).Not pretty.:eyebulge:
I have flowmasters on my 2.3l stock motor on an 89 foxbody. It sounds nice. Not quite as throaty as a 5.0 but it still sounds nice. Of course, my exhaust has been changed from a single pipe to a set of duals just like the ones on a 5.0.

Hey what flowmaster series did you put on your car? Did the flowmaster give you an increase in horsepower? Would you happen to how any other brand magnaflow, bassani, ect. would sound? Get back to me when you can. thanks.
I do not know which type flowmaster. I took it to the shop to get the exhaust fixed because it had been pretty much destroyed and I told them to make it sound nice. They put duals on it and added flowmaster. I'll check and see if I can find the recipt and get the part # for you but I dont think I have it any longer.
2.3l mustangs sound awsome with straight pipes but i put a cherry bomb glass pack on mine just to make it street legal and it sounds pretty good but of course its not really the muffler its what you got in front of the muffler so you wont realy ever get that throaty rumble of the 5.0 but it definently isnt the dirtbike/lawnmower sound of an import
Does anyone know any other brands that sound good beside flowmaster? Like magnaflow, barola, bassani etc. Any info would be greatly apprecaite. Please be specific.
Listen to a single exhuast flowmaster 40 series

I put a flowmaster 40 series on my 2.3 stang and it sounds good. I have dual exhaust. I was skeptical at first about getting the flowmaster because i thought it would sound kinda of importish, but im glad i did get it. The flowmaster gives a noticeable increase in power. Next i am going to try and get some headers and cold air intake hopefully i will see a greater increase in power.

I agree with the Straight pipe... but what makes it illegal to run the "no muffler" route?

My LX 2.3L I4 Car had a Straight Pipe for safety and Emmisions, Passed! as well as my Merkur XR4Ti 2.3L Tubo HAS a Straight Pipe, it passed Safety and I buzz by cops all the time @ 4000 RPM and let my foot OFF the gas to giv'em a scare... They Wave at me!!! LOL
Hehe...Time to come out of lurking for a second...

I got a Flowmaster 40 series muffler on my car a little over a month ago...Shop also replaced the piping after the muffler to 2¼" since the stock piping was rusted out...

I got a Flowmaster for my 2.3L because I liked the sound my dad got from his '03 Focus ZX3 when he installed a Flowmaster on it...For a 4-cylinder tone, it was really aggressive...It was throaty in it's own tone, and burbled a deep note as the revs climbed up...Of course, with my Mustang, I didn't expect to get anywhere near a V8 tone, but half the tone was still 50-times better than the annoying noise of a fartcan muffler to my ears...My 2.3 puts out a somewhat different sound than the Zetec, since the Zetec engine had variable valve/cam timing, so the tone varied throughout the revs, but it still had that distinctive tone for a 4-cylinder with the nice Flowmaster rumble...I could get erections standing behind my car when I let it run on idle, but that'd be wrong...Or would it? :D

Outside of sound, I also got it because of performance and fuel economy...It really picks up once you get going, and I'm sure I got a little more out of my milage too with the Flowmaster (Especially since these 2.3s aren't very efficient, since they're such a large engine for a 4-cylinder :( )...

i just put one on my car this weekend, it dosen't sound much different, but it gets up and goes alot better, so performance wise it is great, sound wise its not

hey guys.. i was thinking of replacing my exuasht with a flowmaster 40 series muffler, 2.25 inch pipe and taking off the cats and getting a header fot it.. will that add power.. will it sound good.. haha im sure it will.. even tho its illegal
G
you wont pass emmisions it should sound ok its not gunna sound as good as you think it will trust me a have abrand new cat 2.25in piping and a flowmaster muffler it soundsok but you will never get that deep rumble we all like but big impovement might get you 8-12 hp at the most
I actually got my 40 series flowmaster muffler 5 months ago and supposedly they get louder with age. Since it melts the inner coating from the exhaust heat. It doesn't sound like a civic with a fart can.. it actually sounds like small v8 if that makes any sense.. lol. but I hear it around 2000 rpm. I guess its only in my state (illinois) im not sure but I don't need to take my mustangs for emmissions anymore. For cars older than 95.
G
where i live they test for visual emmisons but thats it so your is soundingbetter with age mine is only a week old but it sounds pretty good
i have a 5.0 and a 2.3 turned 2.3t and i took the flows off the v8 for a set of spintechs. major power increase, more than half the weight, sounded badass. cant miss the car now. personally done with flows, after my own test.. guess its all in the preference
G
ive seen the spin tech heard alot of good and they look bad a$$
The super 40s flowmaster on the svo sound great! How would it sound if it were single exhaust on my 84 svo? With 2.25 or 2.5 inch exhaust except with the Original Flowmaster 40 series?
