Hey Guys!

So I am starting to look at getting some long tube headers with a catted H pipe and I was wonder what I can expect in terms of exhaust sound, both inside when driving and outside. Will it be a lot louder, deeper, have more gurgle, etc? Anyone who has a similar setup that can provide some input would be great! Thanks!

The note will be more refined with cats and with a nice catback on and not too many poping noisies when you downshift, i went with an O/R xpipe and straight all the way nobody even tries to race me they think it has like 1000 hp loool
H= Old school muscle car

On mine I noticed it gained some volume but is WAY deeper. Now when I hear other Mustangs driving around with just an axle back, they sound almost "tinny" compared to how mine sounds.

That's good to hear! I have ridden in my brother in laws 1996 Camaro Z28 and he has a full exhaust system on it and it sound awesome! Even in the car when crusing around you can really hear the exhaust gurgle and each exhaust pulse. I know the caramo is a pushrod 5.7L, but I hope to get as close to that sound as possible.

Jason,

Good question here! Just as Shrawi had said the H is going to give you a lot more muscular thick sound whereas the X will give you more of a higher pitched sound. I go back and forth on them almost daily and while I'm pretty partial to the H the X is starting to really grow on me. The fact that it's going to flow a little better and produce somewhat better gains is a real selling point for me. At the end of the day this is your car and you should mod it as you see fit! Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions and I'm here to help!

I do think the H pipe is the way I want to go. I have this setup in mind Kooks Long Tube Headers- 1 5/8"x 2 1/2" w/Catted H-Pipe- 2005-2010 Ford Mustang GT (4.6L V8) [6020-CH] - $1,575.54$1,361.27 : MarylandSpeed.com- Your First Stop on the Way to Performance!

Sadly, I have noticed AM does not offer this package.

I definitely want the deeper more muscle car sound, I don't like the raspyness of the X pipe.

This is more of a long term goal as I hope to wait for some good winter deals to save some money.

Call Maryland Speed as they will get you a better price as you are a Forum Member. I would talk to them about getting them coated as they will ship them off for you and when you receive your order they are coated, so basically with the discount you have the money to cover the Jet-Hot or similar coating for free. I like the H-Pipe as it sounds great with the Detroit Rocker Cams from Brenspeed, so when I put the Long Tubes in I will go H-Pipe Old School and at WOT it screams as I have the MAC Mufflers.

I have always though that modular engines sound better with an x-pipe, and OHV engines sound better with an h-pipe. The h-pipe emphasizes the lope, which OHV engines tend to do more.
The H-pipe gives the exhaust an old school rumbly American muscle car V8 sound, whereas the X-pipe makes the exhaust sound more raspy like a modern European V8 muscle car. As far as HP gains go, you're splitting hairs but the X-pipe may yield a fraction more. Therefore the choice will come down to the sound that you prefer rather than HP gains.

It looks like there are some good sales over the winter, so I plan to wait till then to buy. I was looking at the coating options and do think its worth adding the ceramic coating to the Kooks.

I think headers made my car sound awesome. Longtubes, H pipe and chambered mufflers...sounds amazing, can't go wrong with that setup!

Now I will say, with my Aerochambers at WOT, my god the car absolutely ROARS....gotta check for any cops around before I really get on it!

So I see you have resonators and aftermarket axlebacks. Would my car be louder than yours if I only had LTs, catted H, and catback borla ATAKs? I want a good sound, but don't want to be obnoxious loud.

Honestly I really don't think the resonators do much. The car is still louder than it was before the headers.

Honestly I think you may find the ATAK's to be VERY loud once you put on headers, especially if you still have your stock cats. I had high flow cats on before so the sound change wasn't quite as dramatic... I'd had MBRP's with a high flow catted X pipe and they were loud even with that, which was how I ended up switching to the Aerochambers (plus I prefer the sound of a chambered muffler)

You can Google Web test conducted for the before and after coating results and other members have posted it data as well.

It works.

I had Kooks LT headers and catted H pipe installed last weekend and I realized now that my question for this thread should have been how will "High flow catted H pipe" change the sound. With my ATAKs the car sounds great below 2500 rpm and above at only partial throttle, but anything above 2500 rpm at WOT and I think I am getting a lot of trumpeting...the exhaust just doesn't sound good then.

Anyone with ideas to help get the deep nice rumble I had before?

Anytime you remove the cats or swap to hi flow cats you're going to get the rasp. The ataks are basically a straight thru muffler so if ya want the deep rumble I would suggest going back to a chambered muffler...any straight thru muffler will produce a raspy sound.

How does your car sound with the high flow cats, H pipe, and violators? I see that the violators are basically straight through and are not really considered chambered. Do you have any rasp or trumpeting?

It is raspy...but I guess I would describe it more as a throaty rasp. I do not get any trumpeting or drone inside the car...the odd thing is this setup is kinda quiet inside the car...but outside it is loud as hell. I plan on going long tubes here in the near future and I am pretty sure I will no longer be able to run the Violators.
