2007 mustang v6 79k

any input is VERY appreciated

1st problem...started as a small radiator leak..just at the seam of the top of the radiator..small amount of coolant leaked and would steam off from the hot radiator..now i think my water pump has gone? i dont know...ALOT of water is now leaking (added water instead of coolant for temporary use) seems to be leaking from around the engine...not the radiator (well maybe it still is) i am now trying to figure out were the leak is starting

2nd problem...my serpentine belt keeps shredding ...last belt was on a week ago and completely shredded (needed tow home)...thank god for AAA...the second belt i put on has now shredded off 1.5 ribs of the 6...i dont see a stuck pulley...unless it only happens occasionally

symptoms of both problems have been a high rpm at idle...around 950-1000...feels sluggish (not much power at the wheels from gas pedal)...seems to have some type of ticking while driving

i have no mechanical experience besides changing my alternator and belt a few times now...PLEASE HELPPPPP

don't drive an overheating car...you might have to bite the bullet and take it in, sounds like the radiator needs replacing, the water pump, and maybe the pullies and tensioner, at around 80K Stangs become money pits with all the small stuff failing

If it is leaking around the engine it could very well be the thermostat housing. They are a common failure on these cars. It sits just below the throttle body. As for the belts, take the belt off and take a good look at each pulley and make sure none of them are damaged where the belt makes contact. Also check to see if there is any freeplay or binding in them. Do you get any noises with it?

i just went through all this! replace every thing. the radiator is a foot away from the motor you'd know if that was leaking! if it is replace it! lol. as for the leak on the motor replace the thermostat, thermostat housing and water pump. you'll 1be able to see the thermo housing and should be able to tell if it were leaking. waterpumps squeak and will leak out weeper whole wen the bearing goes! or you could have what happened to me the gasket goes. in any case replace both. if replacing thermo housing make sure u get a new O ring for ur temp sensor! 50 cents. save you a trip back to the store. cut off old one and compare to others. it will leak from here if not. good luck and there all cheap parts. i did it over a weekend and replaced all for about $310 dollars plus coolant. you'll need a lil car experience.

You shouldn't have to replace everything. You can save a lot of money (and time) by just finding the faulty part and replacing it as opposed to just blindly replacing everything and hoping to solve the problem

My exact point. i just did all these one by one not all at once buddy! all the parts went bad in my car within a couple days of eachother. and needed replacing im trying to tell this guy to evaluate his car see whats wrong and replace it. Trust me its a bicth doing it one by one its easier to do it all at once. and only costed 300 bucks including a new radiator. Now i won't have to worry about this car for awhile. and further more i now have a dependable rig i can travel in! And i wasn't telling him to blindly replace evrything BUD!

thank you for the help...since then i have figured out it is the water pump...i took the old one off...grabbed a duralast one from autozone

the old water pump pulley was completely loose and was making the belt slip and shred...the water pump also had rust on the inside and poured out rusty water the first time it poured all over thedriveway...idk what is rusting

radiator has a pinhole leak and will have to last me until i get back from florida the first week in august

but as for the new water pump i have never installed one...i put sealant on the pump then put the gasket on then sealant again...praying it holds....when i get home i will reconnect last hose and tighten bolts all the way and add coolant...anything i should worry about?

someone mentioned to me leave coolant cap off and idle car for 20 mins?

And to the OP I'm glad you got it figured out. No need to leave the cap off for 20 minutes, just run the engine and check for leaks. Make sure you add distilled water if your coolant isn't pre diluted

Ok water pump is not leaking...but seems my radiator leak has opened up in a new spot...its leaking at the bottom passangers side ....also my muffler is dripping water?

ok keep water in the radiator every time you drive. don't drive far and keep an eye on ur temp gauge. don't add any additives to fix ur radiator i here its not good for the motor block. shop around part store will beat eachothers prices. got mine for 140 from O'reillys and was in stock. supprisingly. i wouldnt worry about the muffler unless you have white or black smoke. then you'll have problems. it prolly rain or condensation from the humidity or even from washing ur car.:gringreen

Thanx for the reply...i think the Stop leak i added 3 months ago may be the reason for the waterpump issue...maybe not

I have not been driving the car since i cant afford to have any more problems haha...going to get radiator tomorow ...spectra radiator from autozone...i already took off radiator cover and top grill to access the radiator...hopefully only a one man job that i can accomplish before work at 5pm tomrow

Do i need anything else to complete job besides the radiator itsself? And also is it ok to use tap water to mix with coolant? I read somewere i should use distilled...iv been using tap water since i purchased the car...maybe thats why my waterpump and radiator has already gone on a 2007

But for the muffler...seems its water pooling inside the actual muffler...its dripping at the seam of pipe/muffler not the normal couple drips at the end of the tip

If you would go back and read the first line of what you said you would see that you did infact tell him to replace everything. At either rate I'm done with this.

To the OP, the radiator is a pretty simple replacement that you can do yourself. It's a little awkward so just be careful not to damage the fins putting it in. You should use distilled water. The minerals in tap water can promote corrosion which may or may not be the cause of your problem. It's cheap and you won't need much. If the coolant you got is predilluted you won't even need to add any water. If you do you can get it at any grocery store for a couple of bucks. The leak stop you used shouldnt have anything to do with your water pump failure. As for the water in the muffler, how much is it? Is there any smoke associated with it? Try tightening the clamp that holds the muffler on to the over axle pipe and see if that helps anything

Dont worry about the muffler; that's condensation.

Never use stopleak unless its a last-ditch emergency.

Radiator with an automatic is much more challenging to replace.

yeah i think the fan was a bicth for me and gettin it in theres clamps i think or pins that need to come off the old one and put on the new one.
