i finally tuned my mustang today!

My gas tank finally reached a level that required some filling today. So I went to the gas station and filled her up with 93 octane so that the blend between what was left would be somewhere above 91 which my sct tuner has a tune for.. I've been waiting a week and a half for this day to come and it is finally here.. My mustang has a new soul. The tuner definitely adjusted my shifts making them much more firm and it chirps the wheels from first to second now on WOT. I used to have to do it manually in order for it to do that.. I can feel that it added a bit of power.. though I wish I had dyno numbers for the difference.. seeing as i dont know where there is a dyno I'll just have to deal with it.. but it will definitely wake up your mustang. im just putting this up as an update because i know a few people have been considering a tuner and wanted to see how it goes.. my opinion.. :bigthumbsup:bigthumbsup yes thats right 2 thumbs up. a great addition for all of you out there who want to see your pony running stronger than ever!

It does accelerate a lot better, doesn't it? It's not a massive power adder, but a good one. I love it when the tires chirp on mine on WOT! Mine will even chirp going from 2nd to 3rd. It's a fun little device.
awesome i havent really had a length of road where i had the room to keep WOT thru the 2 to 3 gear change yet so i dunno if itll do it.. feels like it wants to so we'll see lol
Congrats on the tune! You will notice it even more in cooler, drier weather.
Congrats!!!! The tuner added 20rwhp on the dyno to my '01 back when I just had CAI and dual exhaust......
Sweet, it's always nice to have a tuner. Wait till you get a dyno tune, it's a night and day difference, the drivability of your car will greatly improve:bigthumbsup
Congrats bro!

Thats pretty good. Did you guys adjust the tune on the dyno or was it the one from online?

My tune was ok but I expected a bit more. I think I got the tuner at rpm. It has been running good for the last few years so I haven't decided to try any other tunes.
the SCT handheld tuner from americanmuscle.com
thats good to hear u notice a difference form the tuner. so u changed your shift points right? just curious at what rpm do u shift now? i hate the stock shift points for my auto. anyway is it worth 400 bucks for the amount of power u got form it?

It's a good power adder, but for me, the power wasn't as significant as say, the dual exhaust (but remember, all vehicles respond differently to different things). However, it does get up to speed a lot better. The power and other features (like shift points) makes it worth it to me.

yes the tune came with improved shift points.. and im pretty sure u can change them on your own if you want too.. one thing i noticed is that its extremely eager to get out of first gear like if i have my foot on the throttle any amount not close to WOT it seems to shift right up into second gear and ive barely gone anywhere.. it made the shifts fast and hard too like i said before it chirps the tires when im really getting on it.. if you are going to spend the money on it.. i dont suggest going for a tune under 91 octane i can just notice the power now.. if you were to get the tune for 87.. i dont think you'll notice much.. only the shift point change.. i mean if you have the money then go for it.. but if itll be a struggle to afford the tuner and then the higher grade of gasoline at every fill up.. you can live without it.. but it is quite a versatile tool.. im definitely glad i got it and id do it again if i could

i didnt notice near as much of a difference when i got my dual exhaust.. tho it could have something to do with the fact i just got a plain catback that hooks to the y-pipe.. i think i noticed the noise more than power with that one..
olright, thanks for the info. i got a question tho, to anyone with a tuner- i got the intake manifold spacer, and i noticed that my low end of corse, was faster, but after about 80mph, its prity much a struggle form there to top out. my qestion is, will it gain any top end to make up for the lost power in higher speeds? and gass is prity much 3 bucks a gallon, and non of the places around me even have 93, but up to 91 octane, so i dont know if i could do it now, but iam going to soon, and thanks for the help.

That y-pipe probably has something to do with it, but like I said they all respond differently. I really noticed the exhaust at higher rpm's as more exhaust gases are trying to get out. As for your question cubestang, I really noticed the tuner at lower speeds, but I don't go 100 mph very often, so I can't speak too much about that. It would probably help out your top end speeds.
i think it changed the exhaust note at idle for me... i noticed that in drive and at a stoplight or something it idles really low like 575 or so.. and yeah i wanna get rid of the y.. probably sound so much better too.. but thats gotta wait gotta get an alignment and probably tires.. as for top end power.. i have no idea.. havent done much highway driving on it yet.. tho the one time i was on the highway it was really eager to accelerate in the mid range... it downshifts with much less persuasion than the stock tune it seemed as well.. and really... how often are you going to go 80 and try to accellerate from there? i wouldnt be worried about it but it gives a general all around improvement so i guess it would help
Yea. The tune I got on my SCT had a lower idle speed also. I have the 45% underdrive pulleys and the battery wasn't charging well cuz the alternator was turning too slow at idle. So, I had them raise the idle speed back up.

I wonder why they lower it with tunes? Maybe just to save gas? or better sound?
It does sound a bit better at lower speeds and it saves gas. I had to raise mine a bit because it was idling so low that it started shaking pretty good, which I didn't like too well. I have it set at either 520 or 540, can't remember which.

yeah probably to save gas.. it does sound a little better but i doubt sound is what theyre going for when theyre creating a performance tune lol.. less revolutions would in theory take less gas .. maybe thats where we get some of the better gas mileage from

whoa you had to raise it to 520? how low was it to begin with?
Pretty low, like 490. You could set it to around 440 if I'm not mistaken.
