I have been looking around everywhere for the car I wanted to do a swap on and I found it the other night. 1999 Mustang V6 35th Anniversary 5 speed with high mileage and a head gasket leaking for a low price of $350 bucks. I know theres alot of work and parts need to be changed over for the v8 swap but I figured the price was right and the color isnt too bad. The car will pretty much be getting a complete facelift as soon as I can get the Funds to get started where I want.

Interior wise I am putting in new carpet, swapping the radio bezel to a 01-04 style swapping the cluster and bezel to 01-04 style GT. Needs a new ac vent on the passenger side and new seats as the passenger seat gives the "gangsta lean" effect and the drivers seat is torn up in a few areas. I havent decided yet about a rear seat delete on it or keep it there in case I get the idea to let the wife drive this one since we got the kids.

Exterior I am looking for a front and rear GT bumpers with the Mustang lettering in the rear bumper, I have a new wiper cowl for it since this one is busted up bad, and I will be putting in some new lights all the way around on it. As far as the hood, havent decided to put GT stock hood on it or make this one my "Beast" that will have the 5.4 swap with whipple supercharger on it that will require the cowl hood. Still have along way to go before needing a hood but keeping options open.

The rest of the car from what I can tell is in good condition. The brake lines I am going to replace and run all new front to rear with that nickel copper line that supposed to not rust ( I have a 100 foot roll of it and fittings with flare tools so I can make my own). When I get it stripped all the down to a rolling chassis I am going to tow it to my friends house he has a drive on ramp built into a side of a hill where you can walk under the car and do stuff without raising the car. I was going to do this and take the time to power wash the underside of it and remove all rust and then paint the underside of the car with either that rhino-liner or something to help prevent it from rusting any further. (Yes I know it is a V6 car and not worth doing some of this but I want to). Having access to a sand blaster is going to be the biggest thing so I can clean up all these parts and bolts to make stuff look new and work so much better.

Hopefully this project turns into a fun one where the kids get involved and learn something from it. My youngest one who is 3 absolutely loves mustangs but my 12 year old is addicted to video games and tv. I will make sure to take plenty of before and after photos and try to document everything I do or did to help others along. If anyone is interested in any V6 items let me know. Thanks for reading guys.

Thing looks pretty decent for $350. Have fun with the project and good luck with your 12 yr old haha. I got the same issue, my 14 yr old stepson will come hang out but I gotta ask while my 3 and 5 yr olds have some sort of internal alarm that goes off every time I go into the garage.

Yea I hear you about the younger kids knowing when you are going to the garage. My 3 year old has been there since he was 6 months old wanting to be up there helping me. Now as he gets older he gets extremely pissed if I dont let him jack up the car or use the handle on a engine cherry picker to pull motors. I love the fact hes interested in it. Here are some more pics of the wiper cowl and the interior. I figured for the $350 bucks I gave for it I didnt go wrong. Definitely a project car but not a bad deal. Body has 211k on it.

If your going to be swapping the v8 in I find it hard not to use the 5.4 your build. But I guess it'll be a while to get both projects done.
In my cars case I used what I had. If I had a Cobra or Mach you better believe I would have used it.

Very nice, Steve! How long is the project going to take?

My dad bought his 67 Mercury Comet in 1997 and it just now where he wants it (minus a few things to bring it deep into the 11s). I've been every step of the way and it has been cool to be a part of it. Your sons will enjoy it whether they are into now or not. Teenagers always have different priorities....

Looking forward to the updates!

I just got word that I will most likely be able to return to work in 2 weeks. If this is the case then I will be able to get started on this project soon. I figure I would start with the underneath of this thing so I can see what all else needs to be purchased to make it all work and make it safe. As far as timeline goes on this one Jon, I am hoping to have most everything done between now and Fall this year. Get it ready to go for the motor and drivetrain to go down in her. So far I have found most everything I need for the swap, going new one some items and going used on alot of others but it should be fun to see the boys enjoying this. My wife is even interested in helping out with this swap.

The youngest boy goes out to the garage and climbs into the car and sits behind the wheel daily now. I can see who is taking ownership of this one LOL...

So my wife is getting involved in this project now. Shes insistent that we paint the car competition orange, make it a 4.6 5 speed with new carpet and seats. The only input she said I can have on the interior is the old cd player location which I am going to put the 3 gauge panel in from LMR.
Mustang Radio 3 Gauge Panel 2 1/16" (94-00)

I told her that I am building the car and paying for it so I am going to build how I want lol, we will see how this works out. Getting it in the garage tomorrow and stripping the car down to get it ready for the project. I found my cluster, PCM and ignition key and tumbler all for 200 bucks so thats a good deal. Going to the junk yard to start getting other odds and end items and interior stuff tomorrow and day after.

Just picked up a stock PI engine with 68k on it for free this morning. Came out of a town car that my friend got and he has plans to derby the car so he pulled the motor and was just going to junk it. I believe that the 99 project car is either getting this 4.6 2v or the 5.4 dohc 4v motor I am building. I gotta make some decisions on what to do because the wiring harnesses all have to come out and I need to start shopping.

I went today and bought my CCRM module, the instrument cluster and PCM, pcm wiring harness, engine wiring harness, and the headlight wiring harness with the fog light plugs. My question is does anyone know since the T5 and T45 transmissions are so close will the V6 5 speed transmission harness work on the T45 v8 model transmission.

I cant find this harness anywhere and I cant seem to find the correct info about this harness.

Here is some updates from the project. Turns out getting the wiring harnesses fed thru is the most challenging part as the 2 bottom bolts for the fenders both snapped off on me and will need drilled out and fixed. I had the engine bay all stripped down and decided to shove the body outside and power wash the engine bay and the k member with rack all up to make it look better as the car had been leaking all kinds of fluids and was just horrible. I am kinda jealous of the fact that my son is going to have a nicer Mustang than I do. Power wise he will be stock with a few upgrades like long tubes, off road x-pipe, cat back flowmasters, 4.10 gears, my old 78mm bbk throttle body, cold air intake, lowering springs, subframe connectors, strut brace and shock tower brace bars, camber caster plates, under drive pulley kit, oil pressure gauge, fuel pressure gauge, and wideband o2 gauge. If he doesnt total the car out and can handle it I plan to upgrade him a little more with another motor I am building and possibly nitrous kit for his graduation gift.

So far now I have the following parts needed for my swap.
4.6 stock engine with 67k on it.
T45 stock transmission
ECM with wiring harness, headlight wiring harness, and engine bay wiring harness
New wiper cowl and hardware
35th anniversary GT instrument Cluster 50k on odometer
New calipers, and brake hoses, I am currently in the process of running all new brake line with the stuff that is supposed to never rust.
New fuel tank straps
New AC compressor and o-ring kit

Still working on taking the dash out the rest of the way and replace the heater core and ac evaporator core which I am only doing based on year of car and mileage. The AC worked perfectly on the V6 car which makes it hard to want to replace those items and spend more money. I am getting the interior parts ordered soon like carpet and the short throw shifter and cd player. The dash coming out and replacing those items, finishing the brake lines and getting those broken bolts out and the car repainted are my next major projects. I forgot how much fun it is to pull a dash out of a car. so much work and time involved but thankfully the engine is out and the rest of interior is all gutted so the process should be pretty easy.

Got a good deal on some more parts today. Previous owner had a warranty on the brake rotors and calipers for the front of it and told me to take them off the car and he would exchange them for me.

I also received my 35th anniversary cluster for the car today along with the computer and the ignition key and tumbler for it as well. Cluster has 50k on it. So far everything is coming together nicely on the car and is making me very happy how easy this project has been as well as how nice and clean everything is. I am taking the front spindles off tomorrow and getting those sanded down and painting them as well as changing out the inner and outer tie rod ends on the car. This allows me to make sure that the car is going to be very safe and look good when finished. I am excited because my oldest son gets to come down this weekend and will give us the chance to take the dash out of the car and replace the ac evaporator core and heater core with new ones. I am glad that I get to share this experience with him as well as with you guys. Feel free to comment and ask questions if you guys have any. I will keep this thread going with all updates as they happen.

Cars looking great. I didn't know about the 35th cluster being different.
Seeing an open engine bay reminds me of the PITA parts like reaching back to clip the O2s back in.
Still need to get that brake booster out of there as well

The brake booster I havent removed yet just for the fact that I am wanting to save some of the work for the oldest boy. I am still piecing everything together for the job to make it all work for this car. As far as the 5.4 engine Jon I still have it sitting on the engine stand stripped down. I am probably going to start buying parts for the block this summer and put it together this winter when I have nothing better to do. Those oxygen sensor plugs always did suck plugging them back in but with the edelbrock victor jr intake manifold they are pretty easy getting into.

I am still debating a new k member for this car as well. The 35th anniversary cluster I found on Ebay for a reasonable price. I forgot how much work you can get done on these projects with nice weather. I actually enjoy spending the time in my garage (it is not insulated so if its not 60 degrees or higher I freeze to death in there). Should have some more updates this weekend. Any ideas or suggestions for a complete paint job since the car is stripped down?

Yeah.... You just don't want to do the twisting and shuffling under the dash

LOL, you definitely got that figured out. LOL

However with the seats out I can put something down inside the car and make it comfortable to lay inside the car and reach everything.
