Seriously though . . .
Just buy a car cover and cover it when you are done, the car i mean lol.
Cats are baaaaad, as sometimes they use their claw to scratch there way up the car. I parked one of my cars outside at a friends house once and found a cat sitting on the hood for the warmth, when i got home i found a few long scratches on the side of the car. I was not pleased, i now just drive one of my trucks to his house if im stopping by there.

I apologize for being a little insensitive your post just reminded me of that moment that i found those scratches on my car.

I feel your pain! I often get home from work WHILE my wife is walking the dogs, the second I pull up they run over to my car and start jumping up to see me through the windows, and paw prints get all over the door, annoying!!!!

Replace cat with goldfish.
No claws to scratch the paint when they are on your car but if they are wet, they do promote rust.

Cats are cool. My first house was riddled with mice, and "Cinders" systematically cleared it out, then moved onto the barn, then cleared snakes from the woods. I used to sprinkle screenings from his litter box around the perimeter of my vegetable garden and that kept the deer out!

With regards to foot prints on your roof and hood: park your car in a garage and buy a cheap portable motion detector/ alarm and put it on the wall or shelf facing the car. The cat jumps up, alarm sounds and said cat jumps back down. I did that in for my '98 Mustang when I bought it new for about 6 months and the cat still stays off my car.

You could always put little mittens on his feet. Every time he jumps on your car, he also buffs it.
Does your cat make TOO MUCH NOISE?!?

my neighbors cat does this some times. I've gone out and found little foot prints up and down the windshield.

I'd rather have that one of the raccoons or the bobcat that live in our area though.

I would recommend putting a large towel on the hood and then putting crinkled aluminum foil on top on the towels. Cats hate the feeling of the foil on their paws. A few days of that and the cat will learn to avoid the hood.
