Hi everyone, I need some advice urgently please.

I have a 2005 V6 Mustang in the UK and I recently purchased an S&B intake system, a Boom Tube axel back exhaust and some stainless steel shorty headers that I got off eBay for about $100. I think a guy makes them from scratch or something. Very well priced though.

I got MPT to make a custom tune for me too so the car will work better with the mods. I have the tune on my SCT SF3 tuner.

My car came back from the garage today, they fitted the exhaust and shorty headers. I drove the car without the tune and it ran a bit rough and was quite hard to start. I had to pump the gas to get it going and the engine threw a code saying 'exessive flow through EGR system' which I kind of expected to be honest without the tune on the car.

I then installed the new intake system and loaded the custom tune when I got home. And now they car will try to start up but cuts out straight away. I tried putting some throttle on too while trying to start it but it doesn't make a difference. It won't start up and keep running.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? The exhaust is just an axel back system so shouldn't make much of a difference. The intake is all fitted fine so the two things I think it could be is either the tune or the new headers.

What does everyone think?

Forst of all, here's what you do.
If it had a stock air intake, put that back on. Load the stock tune back into the pcm.
At this point the only mods will be the exhaust, correct?

Your car should run with the shorty headers, those don't change enough to need a tune, nor do the mufflers.
Get your car running with the existing tune, first, with the previous intake.

Check a couplt of things:
- make sure the egr tube is connectors at both ends and the nut is not disconnected nor finger-loose.
- make sure the egr plug is connected and the vacuum line is connected
- check the spark plug wires to make sure they are going to the proper plug: it is VERY EASY to mis-route a plug.
On the passenger side, front-to-back, is 1 2 3 in that order; the plug wires are marked, and make sure they match the numbering on the coil pack. On driver side from front to back, the plugs are numbered 4 5 6. The order of the wires on the coil pack on the driver side is non-sequential, such as 465 or something. It is easy to route the wires to the wrong plug or coil connector.

You should have no codes nor running issues.

THEN, you can install the CAI and tune.

Hi, thanks very much for the help!

It's all sorted now, it turns out I was just being silly and I put the MAF in the new intake the wrong way round! Haha! I didn't realise that the MAF has a directional air flow arrow and I put it on the intake facing the wrong way, durr!!
Anyway I'm glad it was something that simple and easy, I just need to pay more attention next time! ;)
Thanks for the advice anyway it's much appreciated :)

Are there many Mustangs over in the UK? Is yours a right hand drive? Love the color and hope you show off that American Muscle with some pride! Cheers!

Yeah there's a few of them about here and there but they are rare. I'm part of some American car clubs and we meet to talk about American cars and such :) Mines a leftie, it got imported in 07. I haven't seen any right hand drive ones over here, but I imagine we will when the 6th gens come out! Thanks! And yeah I definitely do I love mustangs, owned 3 now and had a corvette too for something different, gotta love American muscle, especially as in the UK your treated like some famous god driving around in a Stang! ;) haha
