I have been working through an ignition from an 88 GT and found the gear behind the ignition switch is broken. The part seems to be obtainable but does anyone know if there is a retainer with this or bearing? Thank you

I've had at the ignition switch on a 1993 and 1988 fox body and I don't know what gear you are talking about.
Maybe post some pics.
