It is time to check/adjust the ignition timing of my Mustang 1988 GT with AOD, but I don't know for sure in what position the transmission has to be placed. The Haynes manual says the transmission has to be in Park (P), while my VECI label shows that the ignition has to be adjusted in Drive (D).

I notice that on my car the idle RPMs in P or N are a bit higher than in D when the engine is hot (I don't know whether this is normal or not), but is the position of transmission is going to reflect the correct adjustment of timing?

Park or Neutral, SPOUT connector disconnected. Engine RPM below 1200. I believe some needed engine temp above 150, but not sure on yours.
